Onsite Contract Legal

  • Develop and execute a nationwide state government affairs strategy aligned with GE Appliances’ business priorities
  • Monitor, analyze, and prioritize state legislative activity, translating policy developments into business implications and action plans
  • Represent GE Appliances before governors’ offices, state legislatures, agencies, legislative staff, trade associations, coalitions, and policy organizations
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with elected officials, policymakers, industry partners, and external stakeholders
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Product, Technology, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sustainability, Commercial, Communications, and other functions to develop company positions and advocacy strategies
  • Lead or coordinate company responses to priority legislation, including testimony, comments, amendments, briefing materials, and advocacy communications
  • Manage external government affairs consultants and contract lobbyists when needed
  • Prepare executives for government engagement and identify opportunities to showcase GE Appliances’ manufacturing footprint, innovation, workforce, investments, and economic impact
  • Ensure lobbying, ethics, disclosure, political activity, and reporting compliance with Legal and Compliance
  • Track legislative priorities, advocacy activities, outcomes, metrics, resources, and budget to demonstrate business impact

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative affairs, government relations, or a related field, including significant government experience
  • Strong knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes across multiple states
  • Ability to analyze complex legislation, develop advocacy strategies, influence outcomes, and communicate clearly with senior executives and non-policy audiences
  • Knowledge of the legal and operational construct of PACs
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, trade associations, industry partners, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across a matrixed organization
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Advanced degree in law, public policy, government, business, or a related discipline (preferred)
  • Experience within a staff position or closely working with House and Senate committees (preferred)
  • Experience leading state government affairs for a national company, trade association, or complex organization (preferred)
  • Experience managing a multi-state legislative portfolio and issues affecting manufacturing, consumer products, energy, environment, product regulation, technology, privacy, labor, tax, transportation, or related areas (preferred)
  • Established relationships with state policymakers, national organizations of state officials, business organizations, and government affairs professionals (preferred)
  • Experience directing outside lobbyists, consultants, trade associations, and coalitions (preferred)
  • Strong political judgment, executive presence, business acumen, and ability to advise senior leaders on political and legislative risk (preferred)
  • Authorization to work in the U.S., verified through E-Verify and Form I-9
