SUMMARY

The Director, Scholarships leads the Foundation’s scholarship programs by managing the full scholarship lifecycle, from fund implementation and application administration through selection, payment, reporting, and stewardship. The position connects fundholders, students, educational institutions, community partners, and internal departments to ensure scholarship programs are efficient, responsive, and aligned with community needs. The position also administers scholarship technology systems, coordinates review committees, analyzes program data, supports impact communications, and develops strategies, resources, and process improvements informed by research and best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, maintain, and enhance all scholarship awarding processes.
  • Serve as system administrator for scholarship application database, facilitating and streamlining scholarship workflows within the related software systems.
  • Implement all scholarship funds and communicate with donors, scholarship committee members, students, and higher education institutions regarding the process.
  • Manage scholarship processes such as verification, initial application review, data collection, follow-up reporting, and participation in review committees as needed.
  • Coordinate scholarship committees and develop meaningful appreciation and stewardship opportunities.
  • Continuously build upon expertise related to trends and best practices within the scholarship field.

Support communications as they relate to scholarships including mail merge, document preparation, and updating materials.

Collaborate with Finance and Philanthropy departments to resolve scholarship payment issues and implement process improvements.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications department to develop compelling content to share impact stories related to scholarships.

Community Impact:

  • Identify opportunities to align fundholder impact with community needs.
  • Educate the Foundation on scholarship-related processes, resources, trends, and community needs.
  • Provide support for discretionary grant initiatives.
  • Serve as the secondary relationship manager for scholarship fundholders and enhance their stewardship experience.
  • Partner with Philanthropy department during fundholder cultivation and acquisition, providing scholarship expertise, training, resources, and guidance.
  • Develop and improve scholarship policies, procedures, and strategies that impact fundholders.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the field of nonprofit management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of philanthropy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Tampa Bay Area and surrounding communities.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong time management, people skills, flexibility, and multitasking ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
  • Working knowledge of database systems, CommunitySuite and/or Foundant SLM, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, effectively with staff, clients, committee members, and Board of Trustees.
  • Ability to analyze descriptive data to display aggregate information in tables and charts.
  • Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data and provide informational summaries.
  • Ability to translate academic or policy research to a broad audience.
