Position Summary
BrightNight is seeking an experienced Project Finance leader to join its investment organization. Reporting to Chief Investment Officer Jatin Gupta, this individual will lead project-level financing transactions for BrightNight’s utility-scale renewable energy and storage portfolio. The role will own financing strategy and execution across construction and term debt, tax equity and tax credit structures, back leverage, project equity, hedging, and other project capital solutions.
This is a hands‑on transaction leadership role. The successful candidate will combine sophisticated project financial modeling and structuring expertise with strong commercial judgment, contract bankability knowledge, negotiation skills, and the ability to drive complex transactions from initial strategy through financial close.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structuring and execution of M&A, construction debt, term debt, back leverage, tax equity, tax credit transfer and hybrid structures, project equity, and other project-level financings.
- Own transactions from financing strategy and market outreach through term sheets, diligence, definitive documentation, closing, and funding.
- Develop and own complex project financial models for financing, M&A, valuation, returns, PPA pricing, sensitivities, and investment decisions.
- Evaluate project capital structures and recommend approaches that optimize economics, risk, flexibility, and certainty of execution.
- Lead relationships and negotiations with lenders, tax equity investors, tax credit buyers, equity investors, counsel, consultants, and advisors.
- Review PPAs/offtake, EPC, equipment, interconnection, acquisition, and operating agreements for bankability and financing implications.
- Manage third‑party diligence and coordinate financing requirements across Development, Origination, Engineering, Construction, Legal, Tax, Accounting, and Asset Management.
- Structure and execute interest‑rate hedging and related risk‑management arrangements where appropriate.
- Prepare financing recommendations and transaction updates for the Chief Investment Officer, Investment Committee, and executive leadership.
- Help build scalable project finance processes, models, market intelligence, and institutional knowledge as BrightNight grows.
Qualifications
- Approximately 8-12+ years of progressive project finance, structured finance, renewable energy finance, infrastructure finance, investment banking, or related transaction experience.
- Demonstrated leadership of multiple executed utility‑scale energy or infrastructure financings.
- Deep experience with construction and term debt; tax equity, tax credit transfers, back leverage, project equity, or related structures strongly preferred.
- Advanced project financial modeling skills and direct experience owning complex transaction models.
- Experience negotiating financing term sheets and definitive documentation and managing transactions through financial close.
- Strong understanding of project contract bankability and U.S. renewable energy tax incentives.
- Experience with solar, battery storage, wind, or hybrid generation strongly preferred.
What Sets You Apart
- You are a transaction owner who drives financings to close rather than simply contributing to a workstream.
- You combine rigorous analytical thinking and modeling expertise with strong commercial judgment.
- You understand how project contracts, construction risk, tax considerations, market conditions, and financing structures interact.
- You communicate clearly and credibly with senior executives, investment committees, lenders, investors, attorneys, and advisors.
- You are collaborative and low‑ego but confident enough to challenge assumptions and recommend a clear path forward.
- You thrive in a high‑performance environment with multiple complex transactions and meaningful responsibility.
Why BrightNight
