Director, Procurement

Job Summary

Reporting to the SVP, Finance, the Director, Procurement serves as AMN Healthcare’s senior procurement subject matter expert and strategic business partner, responsible for developing and executing enterprise sourcing, supplier management, procurement governance, and cost optimization strategies. This individual will develop and execute procurement strategies that optimize third-party corporate spend, deliver measurable financial value, improve supplier performance, mitigate risk, and support AMN Healthcare’s strategic and operational objectives. The Director will partner closely with senior business and functional leaders to drive sourcing strategies, supplier consolidation, demand management, contract negotiations, and procurement excellence across the enterprise. The Director will also drive the continued modernization of procurement capabilities through process improvement, analytics, automation, and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions that strengthen sourcing effectiveness, spend visibility, supplier management, contract lifecycle management, decision-making, and operational efficiency.

Work Location

This position follows a hybrid work arrangement and is based in either Dallas, Texas or San Diego, California.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute an enterprise procurement strategy aligned with AMN Healthcare’s financial, strategic, and operational objectives.
• Build and manage an enterprise sourcing pipeline and cost optimization roadmap focused on realized savings, cost avoidance, supplier consolidation, demand management, and commercial value creation.
• Develop and execute category management strategies across major areas of third-party spend.
• Manage complex strategic sourcing initiatives, including supplier evaluations, competitive sourcing events, negotiations, supplier selection, and contract execution.
• Partner with Finance to establish methodologies for tracking, validating, and reporting procurement savings and value realization.
• Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships that improve service quality, performance, innovation, and business outcomes.
• Drive supplier rationalization and demand management initiatives to reduce duplication, improve efficiencies, and optimize spend.
• Partner with senior leaders across the organization to align procurement priorities with business objectives and influence purchasing decisions.
• Establish and continuously enhance procurement governance, policies, controls, sourcing standards, purchasing authority guidelines, and compliance requirements.
• Oversee supplier performance management, contract compliance, supplier governance, and risk management activities.
• Identify and mitigate supplier-related operational, financial, cybersecurity, contractual, regulatory, and business continuity risks.
• Drive procurement technology, automation, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives to improve procurement effectiveness and stakeholder experience.
• Leverage data, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities to identify sourcing opportunities, supplier risks, market trends, cost optimization opportunities, and actionable business insights.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce manual effort, improve cycle times, and enhance stakeholder and supplier experiences.
• Oversee procure-to-pay processes, purchase order management, and catalog management activities.
• Develop dashboards and performance metrics measuring savings, spend under management, sourcing pipeline health, supplier consolidation, contract compliance, supplier performance, and sourcing cycle times.
• Support the integration and consolidation of supplier relationships, contracts, and procurement processes associated with acquisitions.
• Champion enterprise procurement best practices and promote a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, commercial excellence, and continuous improvement.

Education & Years of Experience Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 8–10 years of relevant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, supplier management, or related disciplines; OR High School Diploma/GED and 12–14 years of relevant experience.

Progressive experience within enterprise procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, supplier management, or related procurement disciplines.

Demonstrated success developing and executing procurement and category strategies that deliver measurable financial and business outcomes.

Experience managing complex sourcing initiatives and negotiating significant commercial agreements with strategic suppliers.

Demonstrated experience identifying, negotiating, tracking, and delivering cost savings, cost avoidance, supplier consolidation, and other value-creation initiatives.

Strong financial and business acumen, including business case development, commercial analysis, vendor evaluation, and partnership with Finance.

Experience establishing and improving procurement governance, policies, processes, controls, and operating models.

Demonstrated AI fluency and experience leveraging artificial intelligence, automation, advanced analytics, or other emerging technologies to improve procurement effectiveness, sourcing outcomes, spend visibility, supplier management, decision-making, and operational efficiency.

Ability to evaluate, adopt, and champion AI-enabled procurement capabilities while balancing business value, governance, risk management, and stakeholder adoption.

Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive enterprise procurement initiatives without direct authority.

Strong consultative partnership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building capabilities.

Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive change within a highly matrixed organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading procurement transformation, automation, analytics, or digital modernization initiatives.

Experience leveraging AI, advanced analytics, and emerging technologies to improve procurement performance and decision-making.

Cross-border sourcing experience.

Experience managing strategic supplier performance programs and enterprise-wide cost optimization initiatives.

Knowledge of modern procurement technologies, spend analytics, automation solutions, supplier management tools, and contract lifecycle management capabilities.

Experience supporting supplier and contract integration activities associated with acquisitions.

Experience serving as the primary procurement advisor to senior executives and functional leaders across an enterprise organization.
