Role Summary

As Director, Pre-Sales & Forward-Deployed Engineering, you will lead a team of nine engineers across DoD and Civilian federal markets. You will own the technical credibility of IMPRES’s revenue organization, serve as our technical face to customers, and operate at the intersection of solution strategy, customer engagement, and revenue growth. This role reports directly to the Chief Revenue Officer, with a path to scale into a CTO-level leader.
What you\'ll do
- Team Leadership. Coach, develop, and hold accountable a team of nine pre-sales engineers. Set clear performance standards, build a culture of technical excellence, and develop the tactical engineering bench.
- Technical Win Strategy. Partner with sales and capture leadership to shape pursuit strategies, define technical differentiators, and allocate team resources to the highest-priority opportunities.
- Executive Customer Engagement. Represent IMPRES with agency CIOs, CTOs, and program offices. Communicate our technical vision and solution capabilities with clarity and executive-level presence.
- Solution Development. Translate customer mission requirements into integrated technical and services solutions. Oversee your team to ensure solution integrity from proposal through delivery.
- Pipeline Enablement. Align pre-sales capacity to best serve our customers and drive account expansion. Track and improve technical win rates and solution effectiveness.
- Revenue Org Enablement. Elevate technical fluency across account executives and capture managers through coaching, playbooks, and structured knowledge transfer.
- Compliance Awareness. Ensure the team operates with working knowledge of DoD and Civilian compliance frameworks, including RMF, ATO processes, and clearance requirements.
- Resource Planning. Own the capacity model. Identify gaps, manage competing priorities, and align team investment to business objectives in partnership with the CRO.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years in IT, 5 years in federal IT solution sales, and 2 years in a people-leadership role.
- Federal Market Expertise. Proven success leading pre-sales or forward-deployed engineering teams in competitive DoD and Civilian federal procurements. Strong knowledge of federal acquisition processes and agency buying behaviors.
- Technical Fluency. Substantive knowledge across IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, data, and enterprise services. Proficiency in AI platforms and a clear understanding of mission-relevant AI use cases and deployment strategies. Sufficient depth to guide architecture decisions, evaluate emerging technology opportunities, and engage credibly with senior government technical stakeholders. Candidates with the following technical background are strongly preferred:
- Dell server and storage
- Cisco wireless and collaboration
- Nutanix / virtualization
- Microsoft 365 and Windows
- Government cloud environments
- Executive Presence. Polished and credible in senior government and corporate settings. Able to represent IMPRES at the highest levels with confidence and technical substance.
- Solution Selling Acumen. Demonstrated ability to shape requirements, influence acquisition strategies, and translate technical capability into mission and business value.
- Leadership & People Skills. Build trust, lead by example, develop talent, and hold people accountable with directness and respect.
- Clearance & Citizenship. U.S. citizenship required. Must be clearable; active DoD Secret or Top Secret preferred.
- Education. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications strongly preferred.
Compensation
IMPRES offers a competitive Total Target Compensation (TTC) package for this leadership role — base salary and performance-based compensation.
Total Target Compensation (TTC): $300K+
