RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) and Rutgers Health are seeking an experienced pediatric intensivist for the role of Director for the 10-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) in Livingston, NJ. The successful candidate will manage and develop the CBMC PICU clinical and academic programs, partner with other critical care leaders, and work with the RWJBH System Medical Director of Pediatric Critical Care to accomplish service‑line objectives. The Director will join a group of 23 intensivists who manage 54 PICU beds and will mentor new faculty, manage complex situations, and collaborate across hospital administration.

Highlights

• CBMC houses the Children’s Kidney Center serving many pediatric renal transplant recipients; the PICU is integral to this program.
• CBMC diagnoses approximately 70 new diabetics per year, many admitted in DKA and managed in the PICU.
• CBMC is home to New Jersey’s Adult and Pediatric Burn ICU, staffed by burn experts.
• CBMC is building a Level 4 pediatric epilepsy center and has begun performing SEG surgeries.
• The CBMC PICU handles many complex post‑operative patients from neurosurgeons, ENTs, urologists, and pediatric surgeons.
• CBMC PICU maintains an active research program with participation in large multi‑center collaboratives and dedicated research coordinator time.
• CBMC has a 56‑bed NICU, 31‑bed pediatric floor, 8‑bed pediatric emergency department, and cares for roughly 6,000 newborns annually.
• Subspecialties include allergy, cardiology, child development, pediatric emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, hematology/oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, neonatology, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology, rheumatology; surgical specialties include craniofacial surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, renal transplant, and urology.

Qualifications

• Board‑certified in pediatric critical care.
• New Jersey license or eligibility for licensure.
• Commitment to academic excellence, including education and mentorship of all members of the healthcare team.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong internal locus of control.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range is $225,000 to $375,000 per year. Academic appointment and compensation are commensurate with experience and achievements.
