We are seeking an experienced Director of Patient Financial Services (PFS) to lead and oversee hospital revenue cycle operations, including Billing, Collections, Customer Service, and Cash Application functions. This role will be responsible for managing accounts receivable performance, improving revenue cycle processes, reducing denials, and ensuring compliance with healthcare billing regulations.

The Director will provide strategic leadership to PFS operations while driving key financial performance metrics, including cash collections, A/R days, productivity, and overall revenue cycle efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for Billing, Collections, Customer Service, and Cash Application departments.
  • Manage daily operations related to hospital patient financial services and accounts receivable.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve cash flow, reduce A/R days, increase productivity, and minimize denials.
  • Monitor revenue cycle performance metrics and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant billing practices across inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and ancillary services.
  • Stay current with healthcare industry changes impacting billing, collections, reimbursement, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with internal departments to improve revenue cycle workflows and financial outcomes.
  • Analyze operational data and create reports to support decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with government and commercial payer regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop revenue cycle teams to achieve organizational goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or MHA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in hospital billing and/or collections.
  • Strong background in acute care hospital revenue cycle operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of government and commercial payer requirements.
  • Experience with hospital inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and ancillary service billing.
  • Strong understanding of reimbursement methodologies and healthcare regulations.
  • Proven experience managing accounts receivable and revenue cycle performance metrics.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Mastery of healthcare revenue cycle operations.
  • Experience with denial management and revenue optimization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory publications and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Experience leading large-scale process improvement initiatives.
