Job Details

The Director of Oncology Service Line is responsible for overseeing and managing the operational and administrative activities of the Cancer Institute’s within Catholic Health. This position will include both Medical Group and Article 28 Infusion oversight. It will ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality care, improve operational efficiencies, manage budgets, and lead a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care services across the organization. This position is an in person role that involves traveling to multiple Cancer Institute centers across Long Island on a weekly basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: The individual must work collaboratively in a highly matrixed organization and build consensus across multiple constituencies. Will work with Medical Group Operations to lead and direct day‑to‑day operations of the Oncology Service Line to ensure delivery of high‑quality care. Oversee scheduling, patient flow, staffing and resource allocation to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Strategic Planning and Development: Collaborate with service line and senior leadership to develop and implement long‑term strategies for growth and success. Identify areas for improvement, expand service offerings and develop new programs.
  • Financial Management: Develop and monitor the operating budget for the Hematology/Oncology service line, ensuring financial goals are met. Analyze performance, implement cost‑control measures and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Staff Leadership and Development: Lead managers, supervisors and staff across clinical and administrative functions. Provide guidance, mentoring and performance evaluations to ensure a high level of professional development and job satisfaction.
  • Quality Improvement: Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards and quality metrics. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Serve as a liaison between clinical and administrative teams, facilitate open communication, address concerns and promote a positive environment. Work closely with physicians, nurses and other professionals to ensure smooth processes.
  • Patient Experience: Monitor and improve the patient experience within the Hematology/Oncology service line. Ensure compassionate, efficient and effective care.
  • Technology Integration: Oversee implementation of electronic health records (EHR) systems, patient management software and other technologies to improve efficiency, patient care and data tracking.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities within the Oncology Service Line comply with local, state and federal regulations and industry best practices. Partner with leadership to track and manage oncology accreditation programs.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5‑6 years of progressive experience in healthcare operations, with at least 2‑3 years in a leadership role in Hematology/Oncology or a clinical service line setting. Preference for infusion center experience and outpatient practice operations.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, financial management and strategic planning.
    • Proven ability to manage large teams and multi‑disciplinary departments.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
    • Familiarity with healthcare regulations, quality metrics and accreditation standards.
    • Proficiency in healthcare management software and electronic health record (EHR) systems. EPIC knowledge preferred.
  • Certifications: Certification in Healthcare Management (e.g., Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE)) is preferred.

Work Environment

  • Requires ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, often under pressure.
  • Not a remote position; on‑site presence at facilities is required.
  • Travel between healthcare facilities will be needed.
  • Involves both office and clinical settings, interacting with professionals and patients.

Salary Range

USD $140,000.00 – $180,000.00 /Yr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include bonuses, incentives or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
