Director of Warehouse & Logistics Operations

Position Summary

The Director of Warehouse & Logistics Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing enterprise-wide warehousing, inventory management, transportation, shipping and receiving, and material distribution activities across multiple locations. The leader oversees geographically dispersed teams that manage the timely, compliant, and cost‑effective movement of materials, supplies, equipment, and patient samples between facilities, laboratories, and external partners. The role requires strong leadership, expertise in supply chain and transportation operations, and experience operating in highly regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Warehouse Operations Leadership – Direct warehouse operations across multiple sites; establish standardized operating procedures, performance metrics, and best practices; drive continuous improvement for productivity, quality, service levels, and cost reduction; manage staffing, workforce planning, training, and succession planning.
• Logistics & Transportation Management – Oversee enterprise-wide shipping, receiving, transportation, and distribution; develop transportation strategies to optimize cost, speed, reliability, and service levels; manage relationships with carriers and logistics vendors; monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions.
• Sample Transportation & Chain of Custody – Support transport and delivery of patient specimens to laboratory locations; maintain chain‑of‑custody requirements, temperature controls, and regulatory compliance; partner with laboratory operations and quality teams; develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
• Inventory & Materials Management – Ensure accurate inventory control and material availability; lead cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, and optimization initiatives; collaborate with procurement, supply chain, laboratory operations, and manufacturing teams; monitor performance metrics and improve accuracy while reducing waste.
• Compliance, Quality & Safety – Maintain adherence to transportation, hazardous materials, specimen handling, and safety regulations; partner with Quality, Regulatory, and EHS teams to support audits, inspections, and corrective actions; foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Strategic Leadership – Develop long‑term warehousing and logistics strategies that support organizational growth; identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and technology implementation; establish KPIs and operational dashboards; manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and resource allocation; collaborate cross‑functionally with Supply Chain, Laboratory Operations, Procurement, Quality, Facilities, and Finance leadership.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in warehouse, logistics, transportation, or supply chain leadership.
• 5+ years leading multi‑site operations and geographically dispersed teams.
• Experience managing shipping, receiving, transportation, and distribution networks.
• Demonstrated success in developing scalable logistics and warehouse processes.
• Proficiency with inventory management systems, ERP platforms, and warehouse management systems (WMS).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Preferred: Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, laboratory services, biotechnology, medical device, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industries; knowledge of specimen transportation, chain‑of‑custody requirements, and temperature‑controlled logistics; Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies; APICS, CSCP, CLTD, or similar professional certifications.

Hybrid Work Model

Eligible onsite employees residing within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Additional work‑from‑home days are available for individual‑focused time. This model supports collaboration while allowing flexibility and work‑life balance.

Compensation

Base Pay Ranges: Redwood City, CA – $199,300 – $274,050; Other U.S. Locations – $169,405 – $232,943; Colorado – $179,370 – $246,645.

Physical Demands

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. The majority of work is performed in a desk/office environment; there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard materials in the laboratory environment. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
