Our client, a leading real estate investment trust (REIT), is seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead enterprise-wide insurance and risk management programs. This high-impact leadership role will focus on property and casualty insurance, catastrophic claims management, risk mitigation strategies, insurance renewals, acquisitions support, and financial analysis across a complex real estate portfolio.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in corporate insurance programs, large property claims, enterprise risk management, and insurance compliance, along with the ability to partner effectively with executive leadership, finance teams, brokers, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead annual insurance renewal processes, including data collection, analysis, and policy strategy recommendations.
  • Manage large property and casualty claims, including catastrophic loss recoveries and carrier communications.
  • Track claims activity, estimated losses, deductibles, and reimbursement payments.
  • Support emergency response planning and disaster preparedness initiatives.
  • Participate in acquisition due diligence and provide insurance-related assessments and cost estimates.
  • Partner with Finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and actuarial reviews.
  • Oversee certificates of insurance, surety bonds, renewals, surveys, applications, and insurance compliance matters.
  • Review contractual insurance requirements, indemnification provisions, and liability limitations.
  • Collaborate with leadership, brokers, lenders, and external stakeholders on risk management strategies.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive insurance and risk management experience.
  • Experience managing multiple claim types, including large property or catastrophic claims.
  • Strong knowledge of property, casualty, financial, and professional liability insurance programs.
  • Understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and actuarial analysis.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across departments and leadership teams.

Salary

$130,000 - $160,000 annually

  • Health insurance, Dental insurance, Vision insurance, 401(k), Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, and Short- and Long-Term Disability Coverage.
