We are seeking a hands-on Director of Research & Development to lead innovation across a growing portfolio of color cosmetics and skincare products. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for shaping product strategy, guiding commercialization, and building the next generation of formulations for a dynamic beauty brand

You will lead a 10-person team of chemists and lab professionals, partner directly with executive leadership, and have the opportunity to influence both the creative and operational direction of the business.

What You'll Own:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of color cosmetic and skincare chemists and lab technicians.
• Drive the formulation and launch of innovative makeup and skincare products from concept through commercialization.
• Evaluate emerging ingredients, technologies, and market trends to keep the brand at the forefront of beauty innovation.
• Manage multiple development programs, timelines, budgets, and cross-functional priorities.
• Partner closely with Marketing, Operations, and Manufacturing to bring winning products to market.
• Oversee scale-up activities, stability and safety testing, claims support, and regulatory compliance for U.S. and international markets.
• Maintain rigorous formula documentation, lab operations, inventory controls, and safety standards.

What Makes You a Fit:

• 7+ years of cosmetic formulation experience with demonstrated success in both color cosmetics and skincare.
• Prior experience leading and developing technical teams.
• Deep knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, raw materials, formulation science, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Preferred Background:

• Experience within a mid-sized cosmetics manufacturer or beauty brand.
• Exposure to clean beauty, natural, or performance-driven formulations.

A Note on the Technical Evaluation:

Because this role is responsible for leading color development and formulation strategy, finalists will complete a practical color and formula assessment as part of the interview process to validate technical expertise and product-development capability.
