Our client, a well-established construction company, is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to lead all accounting, finance, payroll, insurance, bonding, and compliance functions.
This is a highly visible leadership role reporting directly to the President/Owner and Executive Team and overseeing a team of four accounting professionals. Please note this is an in office/on site role in the northern Macomb County area. No hybrid or remote work possibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and closing processes
✅ Manage construction accounting, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and GAAP financial statements
✅ Oversee weekly payroll for 160 employees, including 100+ union employees
✅ Ensure compliance with union agreements, certified payroll, payroll reporting, and benefit administration
✅ Manage banking relationships, cash flow, lines of credit, and borrowing base reporting
✅ Lead annual CPA, insurance, 401(k), and union audits
✅ Serve as primary contact for surety partners and maximize bonding capacity
✅ Oversee commercial insurance programs, renewals, and contract compliance
✅ Manage subcontractor compliance, lien waivers, construction lien law processes, and contractor prequalification packages
✅ Direct fixed asset and fleet accounting company vehicles
✅ Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial planning and special projects
Qualifications:
✔ Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
✔ 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience
✔ Prior Controller experience within the commercial construction industry
✔ Experience with WIP accounting, cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and audits
✔ Background managing union payroll and labor compliance preferred
✔ Strong leadership and communication skills
✔ Sage Intacct Construction experience is a plus
