Job Summary

Main Duties

Policy Research & Development

  • Research legislative, budgetary, and policy‑related issues impacting the tech sector and synthesize findings into clear, actionable materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and maintain Tech:NYC’s positions on key policy issues in collaboration with the Director of Government Affairs and senior leadership.
  • Identify emerging policy issues relevant to Tech:NYC’s membership and develop the organization’s positions and stances in collaboration with the Director of Government Affairs.
  • Track and analyze emerging AI policy and regulatory developments at the city, state, and federal level, developing Tech:NYC’s positions in collaboration with senior leadership and the Director of Government Affairs.
  • Provide analysis and written stances on policy matters as they arise, working with the Press Secretary to ensure Tech:NYC can respond quickly and authoritatively to fast‑moving developments.
  • Produce policy briefs, reports, white papers, testimony, and other written materials that support advocacy efforts and demonstrate Tech:NYC’s expertise.
  • Monitor the legislative and regulatory landscape and maintain up‑to‑date tracking of relevant activity at the city and state level.

Member Engagement & Programming

  • Serve as a primary resource for Tech:NYC members on policy and government‑related matters, providing timely updates and substantive analysis.
  • Develop and produce policy‑related events and programming for members, including receptions, panel discussions, and briefings that connect members to relevant policy developments.
  • Translate government activity into actionable intelligence for the tech sector, and translate tech sector issues into insights for government stakeholders.
  • Support the development of AI‑focused programming and resources that help Tech:NYC members navigate the evolving regulatory and policy landscape.
  • Maintain consistent communication with Tech:NYC membership on policy matters, in collaboration with the Communications team.

External Representation & Collaboration

  • Represent Tech:NYC at meetings with policymakers and other stakeholders in NYC and Albany, in coordination with the Director of Government Affairs.
  • Appear publicly on behalf of Tech:NYC at hearings, roundtables, and press conferences.
  • Support coalition‑building efforts with private, nonprofit, and educational organizations.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Government Affairs to ensure policy research and external advocacy are aligned and mutually reinforcing.

Your Skills and Experience

  • 7–10 years working in government, policy, or advocacy‑related roles; experience with New York City and/or State policy strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience researching and analyzing complex policy issues, with exceptional writing skills and a track record of producing high‑quality policy materials.
  • Experience working on policy issues related to the tech sector, with familiarity with tech industry dynamics.
  • A strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory landscape in New York City and State.
  • An understanding of the roles and dynamics of membership‑based associations.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence policy issues and the regulatory debates shaping the tech sector is a plus.
  • Experience working with communications professionals and supporting advocacy efforts through communications techniques.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Passionate about technology and advancing the tech sector’s goals in New York.

Salary Range & Benefits

The target range of base salary in this role is $120,000–160,000. In addition to base salary, Tech:NYC considers other key components as part of total compensation, including annual holiday and benefits. Actual base compensation is influenced by a wide array of candidate factors, such as skill set and level of experience.

Tech:NYC provides a generous benefits package including excellent coverage for health, vision, and dental insurance premiums; paid parental leave; time off including vacation, holidays, and sick time; and reimbursement for cellular service.

Additional Requirements

Tech:NYC operates under an in‑person office environment Monday through Thursday, with Friday being reserved for at‑home flexible work. This role requires occasional travel to Albany, as well as the ability to regularly participate in both breakfast and evening events.
