We are conducting a confidential search for a senior pharmacy leader to oversee Pharmacy services for a leading academic medical center in Boston.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced pharmacy administrator who can combine clinical leadership, pharmacy operations, regulatory oversight, financial management, education, and strategic planning within a complex hospital environment.

The Director will lead the Pharmacy Department and partner closely with medical staff, hospital leadership, clinical teams, and system-level stakeholders to ensure safe, effective, compliant, and cost-conscious medication management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Department of Pharmacy.
  • Oversee clinical pharmacy services, pharmacy operations, research, education, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement.
  • Lead departmental planning, budgeting, fiscal reporting, goal setting, and performance measurement.
  • Manage hiring, training, performance management, professional development, and succession planning for pharmacy staff.
  • Develop and implement operational improvements and pharmacy service-line enhancements.
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory control, contracts, and pharmacy-related financial activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and pharmacy standards, including DEA, FDA, USP requirements, Joint Commission, and state pharmacy regulations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary committees and serve as a senior pharmacy representative across the organization.
  • Partner with medical staff and clinical leadership regarding medication management and formulary decisions.
  • Oversee pharmacy residency and pharmacy student educational activities.
  • Develop and maintain quality improvement initiatives across pharmacy services.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations related to clinical, operational, educational, research, and financial initiatives.

Ideal Background

  • PharmD from an accredited U.S. pharmacy school.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience within a Pharmacy Department.
  • 2–3+ years of experience as an Assistant Director, Associate Director, or comparable senior pharmacy leader.
  • Experience within a hospital or health system with a structured pharmacy residency program, including PGY2 pharmacy administration / health-system pharmacy administration and leadership exposure.
  • Current Massachusetts pharmacist license, or ability to obtain Massachusetts licensure by the time of hire.
  • Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and educator skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing pharmacy operations, budgets, staff, regulatory requirements, and quality initiatives.

Preferred

  • MS, MBA, MHA, MPH, or related advanced degree.
  • Experience with departmental budget management and financial planning.
  • Pharmacy inventory and supply-chain leadership.
  • Experience presenting clinical, operational, educational, research, or financial initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of national pharmacy trends and evolving medication-management practices.
