Director of Operations (Long Beach Amphitheater)

- Reports To: General Manager
- FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt
- Salary Range: $130,000 - $140,000 plus bonus potential
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct, supervise, and schedule all aspects of Operations, including Engineering; Building and Grounds; Technical Services; Event Services (ADA compliance); Public Safety; Security; IT; Custodial Services; and Parking Departments.
- Coordinate Operations activities with other departments and event‑related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
- Implement and update facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments.
- Ensure Operations Department receives pertinent information for effective facility use and staffing.
- Oversee maintenance of the physical plant, systems, equipment, and vehicles.
- Assist in preparation of the Annual Operating Budget and recommend capital budgets for 1‑year and 5‑year long‑range repairs and improvements.
- Authorize requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines and provide yearly inventory of all equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, safety precautions, and emergency procedures.
- Develop and implement training programs for Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA procedures.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints; conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and policy changes.
- Work closely with the General Manager in preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements and contract reviews.
- Negotiate with vendors, unions, contractors, and service providers; develop preventive maintenance schedules; implement safety and Risk Management policies.
- Act as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies; assist GM in implementation of energy‑saving guidelines.
- Coordinate and oversee special projects such as construction, remodeling, or expansion; plan and direct outside vendors/contractors to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Interview, hire, train, and supervise employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a technical college with major in Management or Maintenance Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years’ supervising or managing experience in a similar facility; additional experience may be substituted for education.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of staff including management.
- Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel); must be able to learn Maintenance Manager software program.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member.
- Must be able to work flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions
- Location: On‑site at Long Beach Amphitheater.
- Physical demands: Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks as required for the operation of the amphitheater.
