Regal Professional Services has been engaged by a Nursing & Rehab client to hire a DON/ Director of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas.

Summary

DON is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing department and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient care. This role involves strategic planning, staff management, and regulatory compliance to maintain and enhance clinical standards within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the nursing staff to maintain a high standard of patient care and professional conduct.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate with medical directors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and patient-centered care plans.
  • Oversee staffing schedules, recruitment, and training programs to ensure adequate coverage and continuous professional development.
  • Conduct regular audits and quality assurance activities to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively to support nursing operations and departmental goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, administration, patients, and families to address concerns and improve service delivery.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to maintain compliance and enhance nursing practices.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN ) license in good standing in Kansas.
  • Skilled Nursing Facility & (Assistant) DON experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN ) degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare regulations, patient care standards, and quality improvement processes.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare management software.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Certification in Nursing Leadership or Administration preferred.
  • Experience in budget management and strategic planning within a healthcare setting preferred.
