What You'll Do
As Director of Nursing, you will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, ensuring our Veterans receive the highest degree of quality care at all times.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, develop, implement, and direct the Nursing Department's programs and activities in accordance with applicable regulations and guidelines
- Develop, maintain, and periodically update policies and procedures governing day-to-day nursing operations
- Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program; assist the QA&A Committee in correcting identified deficiencies
- Determine staffing needs to meet residents' total nursing care requirements, and ensure CNA trainees are appropriately supervised
- Make daily rounds to ensure nursing personnel are performing assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards, safety regulations, and infection control practices
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections, and serve on relevant facility committees (e.g., Infection Control, QA&A, Budget, Pharmaceutical) as appointed by the Administrator
- Participate in resident admission screenings (including PASARR) and advise the Administrator on the department's ability to meet resident nursing needs
- Monitor medication administration and treatment schedules for compliance with physician orders; provide direct nursing care as necessary
- Develop comprehensive resident care plans identifying needs, goals, and responsible professional services
- Prepare and manage the Nursing Department budget; submit to the Administrator for review and approval
- Review and respond to resident complaints and grievances, documenting actions taken and ensuring fair, non-discriminatory disciplinary practices
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings, in-service training, and continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current in the profession
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program
- Current, active, and unencumbered RN license in the state of practice
- Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, or other healthcare setting, including supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations and standards of practice applicable to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical operations, resident care, infection prevention and control, and quality assurance/performance improvement
- Sound clinical and administrative judgment, with the ability to make independent decisions within scope of the role
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, physicians, and regulatory agencies
- Experience serving Veteran populations preferred
