Onsite Full Time Corporate Finance & Strategic Planning

Director of Finance

Location: Long Island City, Queens, New York

Employment Type: Full-time

Company: Gamer’s Choice – a fast‑growing, founder‑led multi‑channel retail and ecommerce business focused on trading card games and collectibles.

About the Role

The Director of Finance owns the company‑wide financial picture, drives decisions, and partners closely with Sales, Buying, and Operations. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll build a reliable finance function from a founder‑plus‑bookkeeper set‑up into a system the business runs on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a company‑wide financial model, 3‑statement model, and 13‑week cash forecast to guide hiring, inventory buys, marketing spend, and capital raises.
  • Own unit economics and margin improvement program: define SKU and channel‑level margins, pricing and discount guardrails, CAC/payback rules; run margin improvement initiatives.
  • Build finance infrastructure, close, and reporting: establish a repeatable month‑end close and weekly/monthly reporting that leadership can rely on.
  • Act as the finance partner to Sales, Buying, and Ops: translate floor and live‑show data into clear actionable decisions.
  • Develop high‑level tax and corporate structure strategy in partnership with external advisors to ensure compliant, scalable entities.

What You Will Do in the First 90 Days

  • Stand up a working 13‑week cash forecast and a first‑pass channel‑level P&L; update regularly.
  • Set up a repeatable month‑end close, reconciling revenue, COGS, and major expense categories.
  • Create SKU and channel‑level gross‑profit estimates; keep them updated.
  • Lead a margin improvement program to lift net margin versus the baseline.
  • Clean up historical financials with an external CPA; build a basic data room and establish lender relationships.

Performance Metrics

  • Accuracy and reliability of the financial model, cash forecast, and reporting.
  • Timeliness and consistency of month‑end close.
  • Coverage of SKU‑ and channel‑level economics.
  • Margin improvement versus baseline.
  • Readiness for lender or buyer due diligence.
  • Quality of finance partnership: pace and clarity of decisions delivered to Sales, Buying, and Ops.

Requirements

  • Built finance from the ground up in a founder‑led ecommerce or retail company with $10–$100M revenue.
  • Hands‑on inventory/ecommerce finance experience: inventory accounting, SKU and channel‑level P&Ls, marketplace fees, shipping, discounts, and returns.
  • Strong modeling and cash management; proven ability to own a 3‑statement model and 13‑week cash forecast.
  • Track record thriving in low‑structure, high‑growth environments; ownership mindset and willingness to make decisions with imperfect data.
  • Integrity and clear communication; explain trade‑offs in plain English to non‑finance leaders.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting M&A or exits: due diligence, quality‑of‑earnings work, data room.
  • Experience raising or supporting debt or growth capital (bank lines, asset‑backed facilities, revenue‑based lending).
  • Experience in trading cards, collectibles, hobby, or specialty retail, or strong personal interest.
  • Experience getting audit‑ready and through lender or buyer due diligence with external CPAs.
  • Familiarity with multi‑channel DTC (marketplaces, webstore, retail) and lightweight finance stacks (QuickBooks, spreadsheets, basic BI).

Compensation

Base Salary $175,000 – $250,000 per annum; performance bonus possible after six months. Equity is not part of current compensation.

Benefits

Health Insurance, Dental & Vision Coverage, Paid Time Off, 401(k), Employee Discounts, Gym Membership Reimbursements.
