Senior Director – Environmental Strategy, Permitting & Client Advisory (Energy & Infrastructure) Southern California

We are seeking a senior environmental leader to operate as a trusted advisor to key clients across major energy and infrastructure programs, combining deep technical environmental expertise with a strong business development and client growth mandate. This role is designed for someone who can both lead complex environmental programs and originate new business across major capital markets.

The ideal candidate will bring experience across NEPA, CEQA, environmental permitting, remediation, or broader environmental compliance, with a strong track record in utilities, electric transmission, natural gas, oil & gas, renewables, and large-scale infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior-level clients across energy and infrastructure sectors
• Lead and grow strategic client relationships with accountability for business development and revenue generation
• Identify, position, and win new opportunities across environmental consulting and permitting markets
• Oversee or advise on complex environmental programs under NEPA and/or CEQA frameworks
• Guide delivery of large-scale environmental impact assessments, including EIS/EIR-level projects
• Provide strategic input on permitting pathways, regulatory risk, and project feasibility for major capital projects
• Lead engagement with federal, state, and local agencies on high-profile infrastructure developments
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including ecology, cultural resources, air quality, water resources, and engineering interfaces
• Act as a senior escalation point for clients, regulators, and internal leadership on complex issues
• Mentor and develop internal staff while contributing to broader practice growth strategy

Ideal Background

• 15–25+ years of experience in environmental consulting, infrastructure development, or regulatory compliance
• Strong foundation in NEPA, CEQA, permitting, or remediation programs
• Demonstrated experience across energy and infrastructure sectors including utilities, transmission, oil & gas, or renewables
• Proven success in business development, client origination, or strategic account leadership
• Experience delivering or overseeing large, complex environmental documentation and regulatory approvals
