Position Summary
As Director of Engineering you will oversee software development, architecture, quality engineering, and DevOps, driving engineering excellence while partnering with product, implementation, and executive teams to deliver mission-critical solutions. You will lead the delivery of secure, scalable, and innovative SaaS solutions supporting government agencies across elections, campaign finance, business services, and regulatory programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams through effective recruitment and organizational planning
- Modernize development workflows to ensure predictable, high-quality feature delivery while managing the complexities of long government procurement and release cycles
- Ensure compliance with federal and state cybersecurity standards (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, CJIS).
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance system performance, security, and user experience.
- Collaborate with product management and client services to translate customer needs into technical solutions.
- Translate rigid, multi-layered government RFP (Request for Proposal) specifications into flexible, iterative engineering roadmaps in collaboration with Product and Sales.
- Modernize legacy government workflows by championing scalable, cloud-native architectures, API-first designs, and robust data privacy controls.
- Represent the company in technical discussions with government partners and regulatory bodies.
- Establish solid coding standards, reliable architecture reviews, and best practices for system stability
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years of managing engineering teams.
- Proven engineering leadership experience managing software development teams and delivering enterprise-scale applications.
- Strong foundational knowledge of secure software development lifecycles (DevSecOps), zero-trust architecture, cloud-native deployments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government), and data security.
- Experience delivering secure, scalable, mission-critical SaaS applications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in government technology (GovTech), civic technology, elections, campaign finance, voter registration, or public-sector business services.
- Knowledge of government security and compliance frameworks such as NIST, FedRAMP, or CJIS.
- Experience leading cloud modernization, operational excellence, and technology transformation initiatives.
