Director of Data Governance

JCW is working exclusively with a leading global financial institution to find a Director of Data Governance. This is a senior, enterprise-wide leadership role with direct exposure to C‑suite stakeholders and a genuine mandate to shape how data is governed, managed and used across the organisation.

If you are someone who has built or led a data governance function within financial services and wants to do it at scale, with proper executive backing, this is worth a conversation.

What the role involves

• Owning and evolving the enterprise data governance framework, from strategy through to day‑to‑day execution
• Establishing data governance committees and working groups, engaging senior leadership and business owners across the firm
• Driving data quality, metadata management and data lineage across critical data assets
• Leading the implementation and ongoing management of Collibra as the firm's core data governance platform
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements including BCBS 239, GDPR and other applicable data mandates
• Partnering with technology and data engineering teams to embed governance controls within data platforms and pipelines
• Maintaining a clear data policy and standards library with defined ownership and accountability
• Building and developing a high‑performing team of data governance professionals
• Reporting on programme progress and governance maturity to board and executive stakeholders

What they are looking for

• 10 or more years in data governance, data management or a closely related discipline within financial services
• A strong track record of leading enterprise data programmes and influencing at a senior level
• Hands‑on experience with Collibra, including configuration, workflow design and driving adoption across a large organisation
• Solid understanding of BCBS 239, GDPR and financial services data regulation
• Familiarity with frameworks such as DAMA‑DMBOK or DCAM
• Experience working with modern data platforms and metadata tooling
• The ability to communicate clearly and credibly with C‑suite and board audiences
