About the Company
A leading mechanical services organization is seeking a Director of Project Operations to oversee all Service Project Operations across multiple locations. This executive leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence, financial performance, project execution, and organizational growth.
What We Are Looking For:
The ideal candidate is an accomplished operations leader with extensive experience managing HVAC, mechanical construction, controls, or building automation project teams. This individual will lead project management operations, improve business processes, develop high-performing teams, and partner with executive leadership to support long-term strategic growth.
The responsibilities of this role are but not limited to the following:
- Lead all Service Project Operations across multiple branch locations.
- Develop and execute operational strategies that improve profitability and scalability.
- Partner with executive leadership on long-term business planning and organizational growth.
- Build and lead high-performing project management teams.
Project Operations
- Oversee all phases of project delivery from pre-construction through closeout.
- Direct Project Managers, Estimators, and Operations teams.
- Allocate project resources to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Develop standardized project management processes and operational best practices.
- Implement project recovery strategies when needed.
- Own overall P&L performance for the Service Projects division.
- Drive improvements in:
- Gross Margin
- Operating Income
- Cash Flow
- Labor Productivity
- Working Capital
- Lead forecasting, cost-to-complete reviews, billing, collections, and financial reporting.
- Reduce project fade through proactive project reviews and operational discipline.
Strategic Growth
- Support business development initiatives and long-term revenue growth.
- Partner with Sales to improve project scope development and pricing strategy.
- Identify opportunities for increased profitability through change orders and scope management.
- Evaluate growth initiatives, acquisitions, and operational expansion opportunities.
Customer Experience
- Build lasting relationships with customers and strategic partners.
- Resolve escalated project issues.
- Ensure exceptional project execution and customer satisfaction.
- Improve customer retention through operational excellence.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop Project Managers and future leaders.
- Build succession planning initiatives.
- Coach teams in:
- Customer Communication
- Project Recovery
- Foster a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion an industry-leading safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all company, customer, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain high standards for quality and ethical business practices.
WHAT WILL CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Project Management, Mechanical Construction, Service Operations, or HVAC Operations.
- 5+ years leading Project Managers and operational teams.
- Strong background managing large-scale HVAC, Mechanical, Controls, Building Automation, or Service Project organizations.
- Demonstrated responsibility for P&L performance.
- Experience driving operational improvements and organizational change.
