Director of Construction

We are seeking an experienced Construction Director to provide senior operational leadership across a portfolio of heavy civil and highway construction projects for a well-established, self-performing contractor with 30+ years in the industry and $100M+ in annual revenue. This is not a traditional Project Manager role it's a senior field leadership position for someone who has spent the majority of their career running work, not coordinating it. The Construction Director will work alongside the senior leadership to shape how operations are structured and executed, providing direct leadership over Senior Superintendents and Superintendents across multiple large-scale projects or a single major program. The ideal candidate will have 12-15+ years of heavy civil construction experience, a strong road and bridge background, and a proven track record operating at a senior leadership level on projects of significant scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership and direction across construction operations, overseeing multiple concurrent large-scale projects or a very large single project.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Senior Superintendents and Superintendents, driving consistency in execution, standards, and safety.
• Partner with the Program Manager and senior leadership to structure, execute, and progress construction operations as the company scales.
• Identify operational pain points and determine how the construction organization should be structured and organized going forward.
• Provide senior field leadership across multidisciplinary heavy civil scopes, including road, bridge, and structures work.
• Drive the company's broader shift toward a leadership-driven operational structure.
• Champion a culture-first, safety-first approach across every project under the operation.

Qualifications

• 12-15+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil/highway construction, with a strong field management background.
• Proven track record leading operations on projects larger than $100M, or managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
• Strong multidisciplinary civil construction experience, with a clear road and bridge background.
• Demonstrated experience operating at a senior operational leadership level not primarily project management.
• Prior experience with a general contractor performing self-perform heavy civil/highway work strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead and develop Senior Superintendents and Superintendents.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to operate at a high level and see the bigger operational picture.
