Job Summary:

The Athletic Director will lead and grow a dynamic athletic program where participation is an essential part of every student’s educational experience. Because all students are required to participate in athletics, the Athletic Director must be passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for students of all ability levels while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, team work, and personal growth.

The Athletic Director is a self-starter with outstanding organizational and leadership skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This individual possesses a "get-things-done" mentality, is highly collaborative, and leads by example through a hands-on approach.

This role requires exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to building a positive, inclusive, and competitive athletic culture that reflects the mission and values of La Lumiere School.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture that supports La Lumiere’s athletic philosophy to serve as an extension of the educational experience, developing valuable character traits, strong teamwork, and a passion for an active lifestyle
  • Create competitive interscholastic athletic schedules for all teams
  • Develop and manage the annual athletic department budget and allocation of funds for each team
  • Work with the Director of Advancement to generate and execute fundraising strategies, including events and sponsorships, to achieve departmental financial goals
  • Prepare for all home athletic contests
  • Supervise game day operations, staff, and spectators at all home contests (includes nights and weekends)
  • Secure officials and game day staff including timers, scoreboard staff, announcers, ticket takers, etc. for all home contests
  • Coordinate all transportation, meals, and travel needs with appropriate departments for all events
  • Work directly with the maintenance staff to ensure all athletic facilities are maintained and prepared for home contests and practices
  • Prepare and disseminate all internal and external communications pertaining to La Lumiere athletics and athletic events (schedule changes, updates, cancellations, etc.)
  • Manage and monitor athletics social media, creating and scheduling posts to highlight games, results, and athlete achievements
  • Maintain the athletics website, including game results and stories, student-athlete profiles, rosters, schedules, photos, staff updates, and archive
  • Participate in weekly and annual calendar meetings to ensure coordination between athletics and all other departments
  • Order and manage all athletic related equipment and uniforms for all athletic teams
  • Observe, evaluate, and mentor coaching staff, including but not limited to coach orientations, mid-year evaluations, and end-of-year meetings
  • Oversee full-time Athletic Trainer
  • Aid the Head of School in hiring coaches and securing a proper coaching staff for all athletic teams
  • Analyze the effectiveness of existing athletic programs, policies, and procedures and provide insightful solutions for areas of need
  • Maintain professional relationships with outside entities including media sources, first responders, sponsors, etc.
  • Elevate, expand, and manage athletic summer camps
  • Manage the use of athletic facilities by outside organizations

  • Ability to manage several projects at once to meet strict deadlines

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous work experience in an athletic department preferred
  • Previous coaching experience preferred
