Job Family: Faculty Position Overview The Chemistry department of Marquette University is seeking qualified applicants to direct its upper-division laboratory courses and coordinate professional development opportunities for students interested in the chemical sciences. The candidate will develop and implement the laboratory curriculum of upper-level laboratory courses, working closely with other faculty members. The candidate will also promote the professional development of chemistry and biochemistry majors by facilitating undergraduate research, internship positions, career opportunities, and contacts with local companies and organizations in the chemical field.
This is a non-tenure track, nine-month faculty position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, test, implement, and assess the laboratory curriculum of these courses, working with faculty members involved in the lecture portions.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate TAs assigned to the upper division labs.
- Teach both the lecture and laboratory portions of one upper-division course per year.
- Maintain instrumentation and chemical inventories.
- Facilitate undergraduate research opportunities, including summer undergraduate research fellowships.
- Cultivate internship opportunities for Chemistry and Biochemistry majors and serve as contact for companies and organizations looking to hire chemistry and biochemistry majors.
- Organize yearly panels with professionals from industry, government, and the non-profit sector.
- Arrange student visits to chemical companies in the Milwaukee area.
- Serve as advisor to CheMU the organization for undergraduate students interested in Chemistry.
- Assist and advise students interested in pursuing graduate and/or professional studies.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- M.S. in Chemistry or related field.
- Three years of teaching experience or other suitable professional Experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ph.D. In Chemistry or related field.
- Experience directing laboratory courses at colleges or universities.
