Director, Infusion Services
Nonprofit Integrated Health System
Greater Sacramento Area, California | Full-Time | On-Site

The Opportunity

Our client, a large faith-based, nonprofit, integrated health system with an extensive network of hospitals, clinics, and outpatient sites of care across the western United States, is seeking a Director of Infusion Services. This is a high-visibility system-level leadership role based at the organization's corporate campus in the Greater Sacramento area - a modern, wellness-focused environment designed to promote collaboration, innovation, and connection.

The Director leads the coordination of strategic, financial, and operational performance of the health system's infusion services across all sites of care. This leader provides end-to-end business leadership for infusion therapy, including hospital outpatient departments, freestanding infusion centers, physician-based clinics, and alternative sites of care, and serves as the primary coordinator for infusion financial performance, growth strategy, and regulatory compliance - partnering closely with pharmacy, nursing, finance, revenue cycle, contracting, compliance, and clinical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a system-wide infusion strategy aligned with organizational growth, access, and financial goals. Lead site-of-care optimization initiatives, balancing clinical appropriateness, payer requirements, patient experience, and margin. Evaluate and implement new infusion service models, network expansion, and partnerships (e.g., home infusion, joint ventures).
  • Oversee infusion profit and loss (P&L) performance, including revenue, margin, and expense management. Identify and mitigate infusion margin leakage related to drug acquisition, waste, denials, charge capture, and reimbursement. Partner with pharmacy to optimize drug purchasing, contracting, and inventory strategies. Develop business cases for new drugs, indications, and service expansions.
  • Collaborate with managed care and contracting teams to protect buy-and-bill economics, address white bagging and brown bagging impacts, and optimize payer policies, rates, and authorization workflows. Monitor payer trends and proactively respond to policy changes affecting infusion services.
  • Serve as the business liaison across pharmacy, nursing, revenue cycle, finance, IT, and compliance. Standardize infusion performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting across the system. Improve scheduling, capacity utilization, throughput, and staffing efficiency in partnership with operations and nursing leadership. Support clinical leaders by removing non-clinical administrative and financial burdens.
  • Ensure infusion services operate in compliance with 340B program requirements, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and commercial payer billing rules, and drug handling, documentation, and audit readiness standards. Partner with compliance and audit teams to reduce regulatory and financial risk.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to infusion volume, revenue, margin, denials, drug waste, and capacity. Use data to inform site-of-care decisions, payer negotiations, and capital planning. Present infusion performance and strategy updates to executive leadership and governance committees.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, pharmacy, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience (required); Master's degree preferred.
  • Seven years of progressive experience in healthcare operations, pharmacy, infusion services, or revenue cycle (required).
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-cost drug services such as infusion, specialty pharmacy, oncology, or biologics (required).
  • Five years of leadership experience (required).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Board certification or professional credentials (e.g., PharmD, CPA, PMP) preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated base pay for this position is $139,004 to $208,505 annually. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, incentives, bonuses, and other programs. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package; a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
