Main Key Skills
- Strong Employee Relations and leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of employment law , with the ability to apply employment law principles to employee relations matters
- A legal background is preferred , but not required for candidates with demonstrated, in-depth employment law knowledge and experience
- Must have experience with large-scale, global enterprises, publicly traded company
- 15 + years of HR
- Extensive background in employee relations, performance management, investigations, and organizational consulting
- Strong labor and union relations experience, including exposure to collective bargaining environments and labor strategy
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices
- Demonstrated exposure and operation within all aspects of Employment Law.
The Director, Employee Relations serves as a strategic HR advisor and trusted partner to the Vice President, Health & Human Resources and is the first point of escalation for field employee relations matters raised by Operating Group HR Leads. As a key extension of Corporate HR leadership, this individual provides decisive guidance on complex employee relations matters, policy interpretation, compliance concerns, performance management, investigations, and organizational risk. The Director may also guide and consult with individual Group HR Leads on the rollout of HR initiatives.
This position has the authority and responsibility to make decisions regarding employee relations matters and direct how the Company will address them, consulting with Corporate Legal as needed. Working directly with Group HR Leads and the Vice President, Health & Human Resources, the Director will determine and direct employee relations outcomes for sensitive workplace matters, corrective actions, performance management issues, and other escalated concerns.
The Director works closely with Corporate Legal as needed on employee relations, labor and union matters, investigations, organizational risk, and compliance considerations. The Director serves as the liaison among Group HR Leads, the Vice President, Health & Human Resources, and Corporate Legal to facilitate timely decisions, issue resolution, and consistent application of employment practices across the enterprise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 15+ years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, with a significant portion in large-scale, global enterprises, publicly traded company
- Extensive experience independently leading complex employee relations matters, making high-impact decisions, directing outcomes, and conducting thorough workplace and EthicsPoint investigations
- Demonstrated exposure and operation within all aspects of Employment Law.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly and effectively with Group HR Leads, senior HR leadership, and Corporate Legal while maintaining clear decision ownership
- Strong labor and union relations experience, including exposure to collective bargaining environments and labor strategy
- Demonstrated success partnering with executive leadership in complex, multi-site organizations
- Proven confidence, sound judgment, and conviction to influence, coach, challenge, and make difficult employee relations decisions with leaders at all organizational levels
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align HR strategy to operational objectives
- Exceptional conflict resolution, communication, and executive presentation skills
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices
- HR certifications such as SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent preferred
- 15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience
Responsibilities
- Lead and complete thorough, timely investigations for all matters reported through the Company’s EthicsPoint hotline. Own the investigation from intake through closure, including investigation planning, interviews, evidence review, factual findings, consultation with Corporate Legal as needed, determination of appropriate outcomes, and completion of all required case documentation within established timeframes.
- Serve as a strategic HR advisor to the Vice President, Health & Human Resources, Group HR Leads, and Corporate HR leadership
- Serve as the first point of escalation for field employee relations matters raised by Operating Group HR Leads, including complex workplace concerns, corrective actions, performance management issues, and organizational risk
- Exercise the authority and responsibility to make employee relations decisions and direct the Company’s response and related outcomes, in consultation with the Vice President, Health & Human Resources and Corporate Legal as needed
- Work closely with Corporate Legal as needed regarding employment law, policy interpretation, compliance risk, investigations, and employee relations strategy
- Direct employee relations outcomes by working closely with Group HR Leads and the Vice President, Health & Human Resources, including corrective action, remedial action, performance management, and other appropriate resolutions
- Serve as the liaison among Group HR Leads, the Vice President, Health & Human Resources, and Corporate Legal to support timely decisions, clear communication, and effective resolution of employee relations matters
- Advise and coach HR and operational leaders on employee relations strategy, conflict resolution, leadership effectiveness, and organizational risk, while maintaining clear ownership of escalated decisions and outcomes
- Create accountability with Group HR Leads for consistent HR practices, policy application, timely escalation, complete documentation, and execution of directed employee relations outcomes across the enterprise
- Partner with the Vice President, Health & Human Resources and other HR departments on special projects, strategic HR initiatives, and enterprise workforce priorities as needed
- Analyze trends and emerging risks related to employee relations, investigations, compliance, and workforce challenges to advise the VP, HR and each Group HR Lead
- Build trusted partnerships across HR, Corporate Legal, and operational leadership while demonstrating the confidence, experience, sound judgment, and conviction required to make and direct difficult employee relations decisions
- Lead or participate in special projects with the Vice President, Health & Human Resources and other HR departments as needed
- Lead and/or participate in enterprise-wide projects, leadership initiatives, strategic workforce planning efforts, and other special projects assigned by the Vice President, Health & Human Resources
- Guide and support HR Group Leads during acquisition integration activities and organizational transition initiatives when applicable
- Assist in developing enterprise HR standards, policies, and leadership frameworks
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of business and HR objectives
