Remote Full Time Management & Operations

Director, BD Excellence Innovation partners with New Product Development (NPD) teams to strengthen innovation execution through scalable, best-in-class business system practices. Working with R&D leaders across PMO and engineering disciplines, this role drives measurable improvements in NPD on-time delivery, schedule compression, cost reduction, and product quality. In close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, the BD Excellence Innovation Director deploys tools and processes aligned to BDs strategic objectives, increasing day-to-day rigor and efficiency from development through commercial execution. The role is also responsible for building and sustaining continuous improvement organizational capability by championing Kaizen and a growth mindset across BD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Sr. Director, BD Excellence Innovation and R&D leaders to scale BD Excellence Innovation tools and processes globally and embed them into the way BD develops products.
  • Build BU R&D capability and self-sufficiency by strengthening core competencies that enable continuous improvement and a Kaizen culture.
  • Implement and sustain processes and digital enablement for enterprise-wide information sharing to maximize sharing of best practices, alignment, and quality across BUs.
  • Champion data-driven decision making across BD segments through coaching, training, and mentoring on best-practice methods and toolsets.
  • Engage global stakeholders to understand needs, evolve the BD Excellence Innovation ecosystem, and optimize Obeya execution as requirements and trends change.
  • Provide hands-on, all-hands support to world wide (WW) business units to solve mission-critical, cross-functional challenges; facilitate training and adoption of new Obeya deployments with ongoing leader/associate support.
  • Establish and expand Certified Practitioner networks (Obeya, Visual Project Management, Problem Solving) and cascade the innovation toolbox throughout the organization via digital or instructor lead trainings.
  • Track adoption and performance of deployed tools; adjust as needed to improve effectiveness, using bowlers, KPIs, and action plans to drive visibility and results.
  • Represent the Sr. Director, BD Excellence Innovation in key meetings and workshops as needed and continuously identify improvement opportunities within and outside of innovation.
  • Achieve and maintain Certified Practitioner status to teach BD Excellence fundamentals (VM/DM, PSP, Kaizen) and facilitate problem-solving/Kaizen sessions across the commercial, innovation, operations teams.

Education

University bachelors degree in Sciences, Engineering or a related field is required.

Experiences

  • Ten (10)+ years of MedTech industry experience within the field of R&D, Innovation or Engineering with a proven track record of driving processes to achieve results.
  • Eight (8)+ years proven experience in a company with continuous improvement culture and the core tools of visual management, problem solving, and kaizen are embedded in all aspects of the business.
  • Extensive experience using Lean tools.
  • Outstanding analytical skill set and background.
  • Proven cross-functional/matrixed organizational problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in using tools within the Microsoft ecosystem such as Azure DevOps, Project, Planner, and Power BI.
  • Ability to facilitate complex cross-functional meetings and initiatives that achieve and sustain desired outcomes.
  • Excellent communicator who can drive clarity of thought and change through influence. Excellent facilitation & training skills both in person and virtually. Ability to sustain attention, create engagement, and hold all team members responsible for outcomes.
  • Proven track record of strategic agility with a growth mindset and the desire to learn fast.
  • Ability to work through complexity, taking on new challenges in a complex, matrixed environment, and demonstrating success within an accelerated time frame.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • True passion for continuous improvement, measuring results, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated success in driving business impact through CI and Kaizen initiatives, particularly in commercial organizations and in a highly dynamic environment.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in R&D or an Innovation field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment (FDA) or field within Healthcare and/or MedTech is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of applying change management.
  • Experience in a role that requires extensive travel to go to where the work is being performed.
  • Proven experience succeeding in a role where the team expects you to be the subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business environments and needs.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, ~75%.
