Our client, a digital forensics and expert witness consulting firm, is seeking a Digital Forensics Consultant to support high-profile litigation matters through the preservation, collection, and analysis of digital evidence. This role will assist with forensic imaging of computers, mobile devices, servers, and cloud accounts, maintain chain of custody documentation, perform forensic data processing and artifact analysis, recover deleted data, and help prepare expert reports and other client deliverables. Working alongside experienced forensic experts, the successful candidate will receive hands-on mentorship while developing expertise in digital forensics, expert witness consulting, and litigation support.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and eager to build a career in digital forensics. Nationwide applicants will be considered, with preference given to candidates located in California (especially the Bay Area) or major East Coast metropolitan areas.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with forensic collections of computers, mobile devices, servers, and cloud-based data sources
  • Perform onsite and remote forensic imaging using sound preservation practices
  • Maintain detailed chain of custody records and evidence documentation
  • Photograph, label, inventory, and securely track evidence throughout engagements
  • Support forensic data processing, keyword searching, artifact analysis, and deleted data recovery
  • Prepare reports, declarations, and other documentation that clearly explain technical findings
  • Maintain forensic equipment and oversee secure evidence storage
  • Record billable time and maintain accurate project documentation

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfort working with technology and learning advanced forensic techniques
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • Willingness to travel for client engagements as needed
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to digital forensics, eDiscovery, litigation support, or evidence handling
  • Experience with forensic imaging or electronic evidence preservation
  • Knowledge of Relativity, litigation holds, or ESI workflows
  • Familiarity with scripting, SQL, PowerShell, command line tools, or imaging utilities
  • Understanding of Windows and macOS operating systems
  • Interest in obtaining industry certifications such as EnCE, CCE, or GCFA
