Diesel Mechanic

Alaska Waste, a Waste Connections company, is now hiring a safety conscious Diesel Mechanic to join the team at our location in Seward, AK! Previous waste experience would be a huge plus!

The pay range will be $36-38.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Tool and boot allowance. Medical, Dental and Vision. 401k and 3 weeks of PTO. We also offer regular wage increases.

The schedule will be Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays as needed. The shift will be from 7am to 4pm with a 1 hour lunch.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services. Performs inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulics, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.

• Utilize vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

• Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

• Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

• Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

• Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.

• Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities Include:

• Collaborate with other diesel technicians and has strong interpersonal skills

• Demonstrates time management, organization, and problem-solving skills

• Strong customer service skills with drivers

• Manage the repairs of electrical and mechanical components

• Manage routine maintenance

• Ensure quality repairs are made while meeting guidelines

• Service a wide variety of equipment

• Maintain current CDL license to test drive and deliver as needed

• Specialize in Cummins and Paccar engines

• Maintain a log in computer system of all the history of repairs to each job

• Maintain equipment in clean and working condition

• Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restrict areas and lift up to 40 pounds

• Follows all Waste Connections repair shop regulations and standards

Qualified candidate must have:

• Tool set, toolbox and proper personal safety equipment required

• Basic computer skills and ability to learn test diagnostic laptop and software

• Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of start of position

• Yellow Iron experience is a huge plus

• Welding experience a plus

• Minimum of a High School diploma or GED
