Diesel MechanicPay: $24.00 - $31.00 HourlySummary: The Diesel Mechanic needs to be highly organized and communicate effectively. The primary duties include performing diagnostic testing to find faults, analyze results, repair/replace engine, steering, transmission, braking, lighting systems and other related components.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesMechanic Duties:Analyze/troubleshoot and repair vehicles & commercial motor vehiclesPerform preventative maintenance on vehicles & commercial motor vehiclesMaintain parts & inventoryMaintain detailed records of serviced vehiclesTest drive vehicles to gauge performanceAdhere to an inspection procedure checklist (Annual DOT Inspection) on Commercial Motor VehiclesEnsure cleanliness of the shopGlobal Responsibilities:Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this positionThis job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needsQualificationsEducation/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:Certified Diesel Tech preferredA/C Certified preferredDOT Air Brakes Certified preferredKnowledge of diagnostic testing on vehicles and enginesElectrical (wiring) knowledge preferredAptitude for mathematics and scienceAdvanced knowledge of diesel engine componentsExperience:3+ years of experience as a mechanic with emphasis in diesel engines and/or commercial motor vehicles is preferredSkills/Abilities:Proficiency with maintenance and repair toolsHighly organized and able to multitaskAttention to detailGood computer skillsAbility to adapt and learn new technologyWorking ConditionsOperation within a fast-paced environmentExposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditionsNoise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants and laboratoriesMust be able to work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composureLocal travel requiredPhysical RequirementsRegularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and armsOccasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawlSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focusWork through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composureMust be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipmentMust be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessaryLift/Carry up to 50 pounds frequentlyLift up to 100 pounds occasionallyBenefits InformationAt Ozinga, we care about the well-being of our team members both in and out of the workplace.
