Diesel Mechanic (Certified)Compensation: $27 - $42 per hour + overtimePosition SummaryUnited Dredging is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to support maintenance and repair operations for heavy equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and related machinery used in dredging and excavation operations. This role is responsible for advanced diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and field service support while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and equipment reliability.The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, experience working on heavy equipment and diesel-powered systems, and the ability to work independently in demanding shop and field environments.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipmentComplete major component repairs including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, and drivetrain assembliesUtilize OEM diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting toolsPerform preventative maintenance and equipment inspectionsTroubleshoot and repair excavators, loaders, trucks, trailers, pumps, dredges, and support equipmentSupport field service operations including emergency breakdown response and job-site repairsMaintain accurate repair records, maintenance documentation, and parts usage trackingMentor and support junior mechanics and techniciansMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentTravel to field job sites as needed for repairs, mobilization, and operational supportQualificationsRequired:High school diploma or GED5+ years of diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician experienceStrong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnosticsExperience performing major equipment repairs and troubleshootingAbility to read schematics, technical manuals, and wiring diagramsExperience working in shop and field environmentsAbility to work independently in physically demanding conditionsPreferred:ASE, OEM, or Diesel Technician certificationsCDL Class A licenseWelding and fabrication experienceExperience with Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, or similar OEM diagnostic systemsMSHA or OSHA safety certificationsExperience working on dredges or heavy equipment operationsBenefitsUnited Dredging offers an excellent benefits package for eligible full-time team members, including:100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees (Dependent and family coverage is available at an additional cost to the employee.)$50,000 company-paid basic life insurance401(k) with company matchProfit sharing opportunitiesSupplemental insurance optionsPaid overtime opportunitiesCareer growth and advancement opportunitiesAdditional benefits and coverage options are available for dependents and supplemental plans.Schedule & CompensationFull-time, non-exempt positionTypical schedule averages approximately 50 hours per week, including overtime opportunitiesEstimated annual earnings: $74,000 – $118,000+ depending on experience, certifications, overtime, travel assignments, and hours workedWork EnvironmentThis position works in both fabrication shop and industrial field environments with exposure to heavy equipment, outdoor conditions, noise, dust, fuels, oils, and physically demanding tasks. The work is physically demanding, requiring lifting up to 75 lbs, extended standing and walking, climbing, bending, and occasional work at heights or in confined spaces.
