Design Engineering ManagerSiemens Smart Infrastructure is seeking a Design Engineering Manager for our Protection & Automation Panels manufacturing business in Wendell, NC, with a focus on UL508A subset panel applications. In this role, you will lead a growing engineering team that converts customer documentation (PDFs, one-lines, schematics, and layouts) into manufacturing-ready engineering packages, enabling high-quality, repeatable production. You will drive adoption of 3D digital twin practices, enable wire-length automation outputs for production efficiency, and govern part library standards to improve engineering-to-manufacturing flow, quality, and cycle time—while building the training and processes needed to become best-in-class.You'll make an impact by:Leading the end-to-end engineering package development for Protection & Automation panels (UL508A subset), translating customer PDFs/schematics into complete, error-resistant manufacturing deliverables (BOMs, drawings, wiring documentation, routings/work instructions) that enable right-first-time builds.Establishing and scaling 3D digital twin standards for panel mechanical/electrical integration, ensuring designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and consistent across projects while supporting faster change incorporation and lessons learned.Enabling wire-length automation outputs (cut lists, routing assumptions, harness/wire documentation, and data outputs to downstream tools/processes) to reduce shop-floor ambiguity, improve labor predictability, and increase throughput.Owning part library governance (attributes, approved alternates, footprints/models, naming conventions, revision control, and obsolescence/standardization strategy) to improve design reuse, cost control, and supply-chain resilience.Building best-in-class engineering processes and training, including onboarding paths, design reviews, standard work, checklists, and continuous improvement loops with manufacturing and quality to prevent recurrence of defects.Developing and coaching a high-performing team (prioritization, workload management, technical mentorship, cross-functional escalation) while maintaining hands-on technical credibility and driving a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related) or equivalent practical experience.5+ years in panel/equipment engineering or a closely related manufacturing engineering environment, with demonstrated ownership of design deliverables used in production.2+ years of people leadership (or strong team-lead experience) with ability to coach, develop, and scale engineering capability.Experience converting customer documentation (PDFs/schematics/one-lines) into manufacturing-ready engineering packages (drawings, BOMs, wiring documentation, and shop deliverables).Proficiency with CAD tools (2D and/or 3D) and disciplined document control practices; comfortable driving standardization and reuse.Siemens NX and TC experience for digital twin approach.Working knowledge of BOM structures and ERP/MRP processes (SAP or similar) to ensure accurate material definitions and change control.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with UL508A (subset) requirements as applied to industrial control/panel builds (documentation rigor, labeling, component selection discipline).Experience implementing or governing libraries/standards (parts, CAD models, templates, naming conventions, revisioning) in a high-mix engineered-to-order environment.Demonstrated success driving engineering-to-manufacturing process transformation (standard work, checklists, design reviews, training systems, continuous improvement cadence).Exposure to digital twin / model-based practices and creating structured data outputs that downstream production teams can reliably execute (e.g., wire cut lists, routing outputs, or work-instruction automation).
