Deputy Physician-in-Chief, Surgical Oncology

The Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, in partnership with the Northwell Health Cancer Institute, is seeking a Deputy Physician-in-Chief for Surgical Oncology. This physician executive will lead and integrate surgical cancer care across one of the nation's largest health systems, serving the greater metropolitan New York area. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape and expand multidisciplinary surgical cancer programs across all disease sites within a diverse patient population.

• The Northwell Health Cancer Institute cares for approximately 24,000 cancer patients each year across the health system's hospitals and roughly 900 outpatient locations.
• The Cancer Institute has expanded its reach into the Hudson Valley and Connecticut with the acquisition of Nuvance Health.
• The Cancer Institute combines academic and community cancer care, bringing together over 300 affiliated physicians across more than 25 subspecialties.
• Care is standardized across the system, with co-located surgery, medical oncology, and radiation oncology in a single setting wherever possible.
• Dedicated nurse navigators connect patients to services, ensuring high standards of care.
• Surgical oncology encompasses advanced operative care across all major disease sites, including breast, gastrointestinal, hepatopancreatobiliary, colorectal, thoracic, endocrine, melanoma and soft tissue, gynecologic, genitourinary, and head and neck cancers.

Responsibilities

• Lead all surgical oncology programs across the system, partnering with Deputy Physicians-in-Chief for Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology and with regional and hospital cancer leaders.
• Develop and execute the system-wide strategic vision for surgical oncology services.
• Oversee quality, efficiency, and access across all disease sites and care settings.
• Recruit and develop outstanding surgeons.
• Elevate the national reputation of surgical oncology across the Northwell Health Cancer Institute.

Compensation

• Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125,000 to $750,000.

Requirements

• Board certified by the American Board of Surgery with fellowship training and/or certification in Complex General Surgical Oncology or a comparable surgical oncology discipline (Required).
• Possess administrative and leadership experience at an academic medical center or health system, such as Chief, Division Chief, Vice Chair, Chair, or service-line leader (Required).
• Demonstrated experience in clinical, research, and teaching achievement commensurate with appointment to the faculty at the rank of Professor (Required).
• Nationally recognized clinical leader (Required).
• Actively practicing surgical oncologist (Required).
• Strong operations experience (Required).
• Track record of improving efficiency and quality of services (Required).
