DEFINITION: Coordinates activities in connection with the planning, development, and execution of an extensive and on-going major building construction and alteration program for a large County department or institution.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS: Positions allocable to this class have the primary and full-time responsibility for coordinating the planning and execution of the building program for their departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Confers with administrative and operating personnel regarding functions scopes and operational requirements of proposed buildings.
  2. Conducts surveys and makes recommendations as to site requirements for new facilities.
  3. Prepares requests for proposed capital projects and other construction or alteration projects.
  4. Coordinates capital projects and represents the department's interests in contacts with various officials and agencies.
  5. Approves plans and specifications prior to the start of constructions.
  6. Inspects capital projects during and after construction to ensure compliance.
  7. Determines space needs and makes projections for building expansion programs.
  8. Prepares drawings, specifications, and estimates for building alterations.

SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS:

OPTION I: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university - AND - two years of experience in architectural work at the Architectural Associate level.

OPTION II: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university - AND - two years of experience as a Principal Facilities Planning Assistant.

OPTION III: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university - AND - two years of experience in a responsible staff capacity analyzing and making recommendations for major building projects.

LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License.

PHYSICAL CLASS: Physical Class II – Light.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD Architecture Software.
  • Possession of an Architect license.
