POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the Department Manager provides strategic leadership for a Department within the Springfield Plant. The Department Manager has overall accountability for the performance of a Department and the impact on the larger operating unit. Leads Team Managers and staff to achieve exceptional business results through the development of people and continuous improvement of manufacturing and supply chain processes. Participates as an active member of the leadership team and ensures that strategies across functions are aligned to create common objectives and achieve plant goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership for a Department under the general supervision of the Operations Manager

Establishes and executes critical operational action plans to support the plant Master Plan

Plans for continuous improvement and creates new and innovative strategies necessary to consistently meet our customers’ expectations

Establishes a vision/mission for a Department

Responsible to monitor and meet all key performance indicators for developing action plans to meet targets and provide necessary support to operation areas

Plans for technological, preventative maintenance and engineering improvements for operations

Ensures adherence to McCormick High Performance System models throughout a Department by providing appropriate coaching and development for direct reports

Develops and manages departmental budget

Works collaboratively with support departments to assure that all key processes, projects, and programs are completed successfully

Manages a 24 hour multi-shift operation 7 days per week

Performs evaluations and creates development/training plans for direct reports within a Department

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum 5 years of functional/leadership experience

Management experience in the manufacturing industry

Strong leadership experience with demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and people

Demonstrated experience developing, coaching, and motivating employees in a team-based environment

Strong communication and diplomacy skills

Demonstrated experience responding to multiple and changing priorities and achieving results within a compressed time frame

Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively interact with all levels within the facility and organization

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Proficiency with MS Excel and Word

Flexibility to work across all shifts to meet business needs

Willingness to relocate for future assignments

Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in a Technical Field (i.e. Food Science, Engineering, or Chemistry)

Food, beverage and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing (GMP environment) experience

Proficiency with SAP or another ERP system
