About the Role
As a Department Manager, you are a leader who supports and encourages your whole team. You create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit, enabling the store, customers and colleagues to succeed. You deliver an excellent operational and visual experience, using your awareness of the store’s strengths, opportunities and competitors to analyze sales and formulate plans that optimise results and profitability.
A Day in the Life
Every day presents the following responsibilities.
Customer Sales & Profit
- Deliver a total OMNI customer experience in the store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
- Represent the H&M brand positively during customer interactions.
- Identify your department’s strengths, commercial opportunities and act on them.
- Set and analyse sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results.
- Ensure customer service is provided throughout the store and that the team works to actively promote and sell products.
- Promote the Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in‑store sustainability initiatives.
- Manage the department cost‑efficiently.
- Maintain correct routines in the fitting room and checkout, including transactions, returns and exchanges.
- Handle all administrative routines for people and operations accurately.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
- Keep up‑to‑date with fashion trends, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers.
- Ensure the team provides product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions.
Team & Development
- Recruit, onboard, manage performance, upskill and develop the in‑store team.
- Conduct performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
- Share knowledge and skills with the team.
- Collaborate, plan and work with the in‑store Visual Merchandiser team.
- Provide and receive feedback to learn and support each other.
- Plan and schedule the team’s activities.
- Communicate daily and weekly to inform, motivate and inspire colleagues.
- Ensure all procedures, routines and legal requirements are followed.
- Participate in onboarding and training relevant to the role and future development.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
- Maintain a clean and tidy sales floor and back‑of‑house, including stockroom areas.
- Ensure high fashion quality, visual and commercial presentation and garment care.
- Secure good stock levels and provide allocation input to the area team.
- Adhere to the full garment cycle, fitting room routines and internal standards.
- Follow best practices for in‑store OMNI services and retail technology tools.
- Maintain balanced pricing signs in line with global and local strategies.
- Update and keep back‑of‑house areas tidy for colleagues.
- Open and close the store daily.

Additional Information
