All managers share responsibilities to maintain high standards, conduct basic principles of conduct and business, and ensure a safe environment while improving profitability.
Department Manager Job Purpose
- Heart of House (HOH) Manager: oversee all food/product matters in the HOH area, staff planning, development, and the production of high quality products.
- Bar Manager: oversee the Bar Department, manage beverage inventory, ordering, compliance with Responsible Alcohol Service (RAS), and staff hiring and training.
- Hospitality Manager: oversee dining room service, host service planning, and team development.
Department Manager Responsibilities Include
- Directly responsible for staffing, succession planning, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientation, training, and ongoing development of team members.
- Provide staff training in WCT in the department and maintain department training store certification.
- Develop direct reports with action plans and coordinate other department managers on hiring decisions.
- Create weekly department schedules within labour guidelines and balance team needs and business needs.
- Create incentive programs and contests to motivate team participation.
- Provide performance feedback, conduct performance appraisals, and administer merit increase process.
- Assist General Manager with coaching other managers on effective performance management.
- Oversee training during training weeks, ensuring WCTs schedule correct training.
- Utilize wing support teams and subject matter experts as needed.
- Provide coaching and follow‑up on service standards and guest experience.
- Communicate with direct reports via timely departmental meetings.
- Ensure all staff have current state‑required training and permits.
- Explore and implement techniques to attract new guests.
- Manage the Guest Comment program and handle food‑quality complaints in a timely manner.
- Use GEM program to provide feedback and adjust practices for overall guest satisfaction.
Quality Operations
Heart of House Department Manager
- Ensure new food product rollouts and adherence to recipes and portioning.
- Communicate with food vendors to maintain quality product delivery.
- Maintain menu specs, wall charts, and department systems consistently.
- Address opportunities and troubleshoot quality issues via action plans.
- Conduct administrative functions (invoice entry, inventory, end‑of‑day procedures).
- Monitor equipment and report repair needs.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety practices, correcting BOH and Steritech issues.
- Communicate new bar product rollouts and vendor accountability.
Bar Department Manager
- Analyze performance tools, troubleshoot issues, and create action plans with bartenders and bar servers.
- Conduct administrative tasks as needed.
- Monitor all bar equipment and ensure functionality.
Sales and Profits
Heart of House Department Manager
- Manage overall food cost, operate within variance thresholds.
- Control overall HOH labor results within SPLH targets.
- Order food and paper products; maintain inventory levels and validations.
- Set daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly projections.
- Analyze P&L, create action plans for problem areas.
- Complete any other assigned duties.
Bar Department Manager
- Utilize cost tools effectively with bartenders and bar servers.
- Manage overall beverage costs and bar labor results.
- Maintain inventory levels of alcohol products.
- Understand sales and profit goals and troubleshoot problems.
- Aggressively manage waste, comps, voids, and discounts.
- Create incentive contests to build bar sales.
Hospitality Manager
- Assist General Manager with local restaurant marketing program.
- Create incentive contests to boost sales.
- Complete any other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years restaurant or hospitality management experience.
- Passion for fast paced environments, especially sports, wings, and beer.
- Team oriented, championing staff development and success.
- Ability to build a loyal, high‑performing team.
- Open availability, including late nights and weekends.
- Highly motivated, self‑directed results‑driven with strong organization and communication skills.
- Proficient in basic mathematical computations.
- Track record of managing multiple priorities efficiently.
- Maintain confidential information; enforce company policies and compliance.
- High school education or equivalent; valid driver’s license; satisfactory background check; able to lift 50 pounds.
- Completion of Buffalo Wild Wings Management Certification program.
