As we expand our hybrid learning model, we are seeking a Department Chair to provide leadership for our Computer Technology programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and computer science.This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of applied technology education while supporting faculty and programs that serve adult learners developing real-world, career-ready skills.Position OverviewThe Department Chair for Computer Technology provides academic and operational leadership to support programs, faculty, and students within the department.This role is designed for an experienced faculty leader with expertise in online and hybrid instruction, academic operations, and a strong student-centered approach. The Chair works closely with the Associate Dean and School of Technology leadership to oversee faculty engagement, course quality, and program operations. As a member of the faculty, this role has teaching responsibilities commensurate with the scale and scope of the size of the department.The position combines academic instruction, leadership, faculty support, and program coordination to ensure excellence and consistency across Computer Technology offerings.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary point of contact and liaison for Computer Technology facultyOversee term-based operations, including course scheduling, faculty assignments, and textbook coordinationSupport faculty onboarding, training, and communication to ensure instructional quality and consistencyParticipate in departmental, school-level, and university initiatives, committees, and special projectsProgram Quality & Curriculum OversightMonitor course quality and coordinate updates and improvements in collaboration with Instructional Design and Development (IDD)Support course development, revisions, and alignment with program outcomes and workforce needsContribute to program review, assessment reporting, and continuous improvement effortsEnsure compliance with institutional, state, and accreditation standardsFaculty Support & Student SuccessGuide faculty in delivering high-quality online and hybrid instruction aligned with University standardsTrack and analyze key performance indicators, including course evaluations, grading patterns, and student success metricsPromote effective teaching practices that support engagement, retention, and academic success among adult learnersFaculty ResponsibilitiesTeaching responsibilities within university-established workload modelMaintain a scholarly agenda in alignment with university and college and strategic prioritiesEngage department faculty in university and community service activities as appropriateRequired Qualifications:Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related fieldProfessional experience in a relevant technical field, with industry certifications preferredMinimum of 5 years of higher education teaching experienceProgressive administrative experienceStrong organizational, communication, and analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and work independentlyPreferred Qualifications:Prior leadership or administrative experience in higher educationDemonstrated experience in online and/or hybrid instructional environmentsExperience with course development, assessment, and accreditation processesStrong track record of promoting student success using evidence-based decision-making to support the quality improvement of academic programs, curriculum, and faculty.Demonstrated experience with the recruitment, selection, evaluation, development, and mentoring of facultyDemonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in curriculum and faculty supportExcelsior CARES Values Excelsior University values Compassion, Agility, Respect, Excellence, and Service. The role includes regular virtual collaboration and presence to support faculty, labs, and program operations, occasional travel to Albany, NY, for planning, training, and program-related activities.The hiring salary range for this position is $97,500 - $107,000.
