Responsibilities
- Takes dental histories of all patients upon admission to determine extent of care needed.
- Examines patients and administers tests to discover dental malfunctions.
- Performs oral surgery as required to remedy dental malfunctions.
- Instructs dental assistants to provide oral care to the patient.
- Orders laboratory examinations, x‑rays, and specific medication to provide complete dental care.
- Keeps records and makes reports to document patients’ dental progress.
- Supervises qualified dental staff to deliver efficient service to patients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current licensure from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry to practice dentistry in Minnesota.
Additional Assessment
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of general dentistry.
- Skill in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of dental diseases and injuries.
- Considerable knowledge of recent developments in general dentistry and the characteristics and usages of modern drugs.
- Ability to establish and maintain a dental clinic environment.
- Ability to provide leadership in working with incarcerated individuals.
- Ability to supervise dental assistants and dental therapists in clinical dental practice.
Physical Requirements
The completion of pre‑placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position.
