Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant

The employee provides support to students who have health, behavioral, or instructional needs to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and have success in the general curriculum. Job specific duties may include behavior support, client-specific care, pre-kindergarten classes, visually impaired classes, job coaching, and bus driving. The employee will participate in staff development and training, prepare materials, operate office equipment, communicate effectively, develop positive relationships, assist teachers, provide data collection, and report collected data to appropriate individuals. The employee must be able to care for children with disabilities, assist in moving students, perform student-specific health-related duties, monitor behavior, communicate with assigned students, work in classrooms, and maintain student confidentiality.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding child development, organizing assignments, using sound judgment, maintaining confidentiality, general knowledge of classroom activities, monitoring student safety, motivating students, maintaining a clean environment, performing clerical duties, maintaining order, operating office machines, maintaining records, and following instructions. Physical requirements include using equipment, exerting force, and having auditory, visual, and physical skills necessary for managing students and the classroom.

Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma, minimum of 48 semester hours or an associate's degree, and willingness to obtain a CDL if required. This position reports to the school principal and is classified as non-exempt. Salary is grade 54.
