Dean - College of Arts & Humanities

Overview

The University of Texas Permian Basin seeks a Dean of the College of Arts & Humanities. The dean will provide strategic leadership across academic programs, faculty & staff development, student success, research, scholarship, and community engagement.

Essential Functions

• Provide strategic leadership for the College of Arts and Humanities and align college priorities with University and Academic Affairs strategic plans.
• Lead academic and curricular development initiatives across the College.
• Oversee the administration, assessment, and continuous improvement of academic programs.
• Support faculty development, scholarship, research, creativity, and service initiatives.
• Promote excellence in teaching and student learning outcomes.
• Foster activities that improve student recruitment, retention, achievement, and timely graduation.
• Oversee faculty and academic staff appointments, evaluations, and performance assessments.
• Develop and implement strategies that support enrollment growth and student success.
• Provide leadership for accreditation, assessment, and academic quality initiatives.
• Develop and manage the College budget and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
• Collaborate with faculty and University leadership to establish strategic priorities and goals for the College.
• Build productive relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community stakeholders.
• Communicate the value and impact of arts, humanities, and social science disciplines to internal and external audiences.
• Support and enhance research, scholarly, and creative activities within the College.
• Develop partnerships with external sponsors, funding agencies, industry representatives, and community organizations.
• Promote the College and its programs to community partners and external stakeholders.
• Support fundraising, grant development, and external resource development efforts.
• Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, shared governance, and academic excellence.
• Represent the College and University in professional, community, and external engagement activities.
• Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of higher education leadership and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Terminal degree in an arts, humanities, social science, or related discipline.
• Progressive academic, administrative, or professional leadership experience with significant accomplishments appropriate to service as a dean.
• Experience building productive administration and faculty relationships and supporting shared decision‑making processes.
• Demonstrated record of advancing undergraduate and graduate student success.
• Experience developing and managing strategic and fiscally sound academic budgets.
• Demonstrated record of supporting institutional goals related to enrollment, graduation, and research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated record of faculty mentorship with measurable outcomes.
• Experience securing external funding from federal agencies, state agencies, foundations, or other external sources.
• Experience building community partnerships that result in philanthropic or programmatic support.
• Experience collaborating across multiple academic and administrative units to support student recruitment and success.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship‑building skills.
• Commitment to transparency, shared governance, and academic excellence.
