Database EngineerCrossTech is seeking a Database Engineer on an ongoing basis to support enterprise database environments, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability across multiple platforms. This role focuses on maintaining and improving SQL Server systems while contributing to modernization efforts that include emerging database technologies.The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with database administration, performance tuning, and automation, along with a collaborative approach to supporting development and infrastructure teams.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, including upgrades, backup and recovery, and failover clusteringMonitor and optimize database performance, identifying opportunities for query redesign, indexing, and configuration improvementsPerform capacity planning and implement performance monitoring across production and development environmentsTroubleshoot database issues, ensuring high availability, data integrity, and reliabilityCollaborate with application developers, server administrators, and other IT teams to ensure seamless database integration and performance optimizationMaintain detailed documentation for database processes, configurations, and standard operating proceduresImplement database security, compliance, and best practices in daily operationsParticipate in a 24/7 production support rotation as part of the database teamSupport additional database management systems such as Google BigQuery, MySQL, or PostgreSQL as neededContribute to continuous improvement by identifying automation opportunities and new database technologies to enhance system efficiencyRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field — or equivalent experience3+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator or Database EngineerStrong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (installation, configuration, backup/recovery, clustering, performance tuning, and troubleshooting)Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SSIS, SSRS, and high availability solutions (Always On)Proficiency in query performance optimization and database health monitoring toolsStrong understanding of database file structures, indexing strategies, and access methodsExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience with Google BigQuery, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or DB2 UDB (Unix)Familiarity with cloud database environments and data modernization initiativesIndustry-recognized certifications (e.g., Microsoft SQL, MCDBA)Experience with automation scripting and DevOps-oriented database practicesCompensation Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefitsLocation Philadelphia, PA
