This is a large investment in innovation to continue to drive operational excellence at our facilities.If you want to build durable systems that operate in the physical world on a scale, this is that opportunity.The Database Engineer owns the health, performance, and evolution of the database platforms behind US Cold Storage's warehouse management systems — both the existing Oracle databases and the PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas systems powering our next-gen microservices platform in Azure. You'll partner with Infrastructure, DevOps, and Software Engineering to design, implement, and scale database systems while reducing operational toil through CI/CD.
You'll also provide real-time support for mission-critical workloads where downtime translates directly to disrupted shipments.Responsibilities include:Monitor, patch, and maintain our existing Oracle database infrastructure on OCI, ensuring uptime and reliability for production workloadsTune and optimize Oracle performance through query plan analysis, indexing strategies, and schema-level improvements to meet performance standardsArchitect, deploy, and manage our modern cloud-based database systems in Azure, including PostgreSQL and MongoDB in support of our modernization initiativeOwn HA/DR posture across intra-region and cross-region failure scenarios, including defining and validating RPO/RTO targets with the businessPartner with DevOps, Development, and Infrastructure teams to ensure database architecture supports application performance targets while managing cloud spendBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and Jenkins to automate schema migrations, environment provisioning, and routine operational tasksImplement and own database observability — query performance monitoring, capacity forecasting, and cost optimization across cloud platformsProvide real-time production support for mission-critical database workloads, including on-call participation and incident responseTechnical environment includes:Azure and OCI Multi-Region InfrastructureOracle (OCI), PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas (Azure)Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and AnsibleGitHub Actions and Jenkins for CI/CDObservability using Dynatrace and Azure MonitorWhat we're looking for includes:5+ years of experience as a DBA or Database Engineer, with strong proficiency in Oracle and PostgreSQLFluency in PL/SQL, including designing and optimizing performant queriesExperience with NoSQL/JSON databases a plusProven ability to diagnose database-related application issues including performance bottlenecks, locking and replication delaysExperience managing database infrastructure in the cloud (Azure preferred)Experience deploying database systems using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar) and CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions or similar)Track record building monitoring and alerting for critical database operations (Dynatrace or Azure Monitor a plus)Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor the message to technical and non-technical audiencesBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent experienceWhy this role is different includes:You will deploy, monitor and tune multiple database types (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) across multiple clouds (Azure and OCI)You will use AI-assisted tools (Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Copilot) to monitor and optimize performance while forecasting and managing costYour decisions will have an immediate impact on our teams, our systems, and the warehouses moving food across the countryCompensation & structure includes:Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000/yrLocation: Hybrid, Camden, NJTravel: Less than 10%Reports to: Platform Lead, Software DevelopmentOperational context:This role is primarily technical and office-based, with occasional interaction in operational environments depending on system needs.Other benefits may apply if annual hours are attained.
