The Data Scientist at Santee Cooper designs, implements, and productionizes advanced analytics solutions to strengthen operational decision-making. This onsite role in Moncks Corner, SC leads end-to-end delivery on moderately complex projects, with ownership of model quality and lifecycle and close collaboration with operations to deploy and monitor models in production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end development of ML/DL models for forecasting, anomaly detection, classification, or surrogate modeling, including evaluation of trade-offs and selection of appropriate algorithms.
- Design and implement mid-complexity optimization models (MILP and heuristics), and integrate them with learned models to support decision workflows such as maintenance scheduling, dispatch, and demand response.
- Develop simulation experiments and digital twin-style workflows for scenario analysis and capacity planning.
- Build robust feature engineering pipelines and coordinate with data engineering to productionize datasets, including feature stores and incremental pipelines.
- Apply and extend LLM capabilities for automation tasks such as intelligent assistants, summarization, and data augmentation, using safe prompt engineering and light fine-tuning where appropriate.
- Implement MLOps best practices including automated training, model versioning, CI/CD, monitoring, and alerting for drift and performance.
- Perform rigorous model validation using back testing, cross validation, uncertainty quantification, sensitivity analyses, and held-out test data strategies.
- Document models and assumptions, and deliver reproducible artifacts and dashboards for stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field plus 2 years experience as an ETL Developer and/or Data Analyst.
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn; plus PyTorch/TensorFlow for deep learning; FastAPI/Flask for services; and venv/poetry).
- Working familiarity with R for analysis when needed.
- Consideration for Data Scientist I or II.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field.
Experience
Minimum 2 years experience (ETL Developer and/or Data Analyst).
