Data Scientist Overview
GLS relies heavily on Data Science and Decision Science to power automated, intelligent decision-making that strengthens dealer partnerships and enables us to offer affordable lending solutions to consumers. As a Data Scientist at GLS, you will play a vital role in addressing critical business challenges by applying your strong critical thinking, academic expertise, and ability to quickly master new concepts and domains, transforming knowledge into practical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Understand business problems and design effective data science solutions
- Gather data from various sources, clean it appropriately, and visualize it to identify anomalies and patterns
- Develop robust predictive models using suitable modeling techniques
- Generate insights and craft a cohesive narrative from the data, summarizing analytical results, and presenting them to stakeholders
- Collaborate with business partners to translate models into actionable business strategies
- Work with IT to implement models into IT platforms for automated decision‑making
- Monitor model performance to ensure effectiveness and validity
- Continuously learn new technologies and refine skills daily
Qualifications
- Strong foundational knowledge in statistics, data science, and machine learning, including techniques such as multivariate regression, decision trees, stochastic gradient boosting, and deep learning
- Proficiency in programming and working with open‑source AI/ML languages and tools, including but not limited to SQL, Python, R, scikit‑learn, statsmodels, XGBoost, and LightGBM
- Proven experience in managing and analyzing large datasets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, business‑oriented, and user‑friendly manner
- Self‑motivated with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify opportunities for improvement, make actionable recommendations, and see them through to implementation while assessing their effectiveness
- Outstanding interpersonal skills: approachable, tactful, and capable of influencing others, resolving conflicts, exercising sound judgment, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with all levels of the organization to build strong cross‑functional partnerships
- Work schedule may vary; generally Monday‑through‑Friday, 8:30 am‑5:30 pm, with potential overtime, evening, or weekend work. Regular, predictable attendance, including >40 hours per week as business demands dictate, is required.

- Requires manual skills requiring motor coordination and finger dexterity, stationary position up to 100% of the workday, and ability to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, bending, and kneeling
