Data Scientist

What You'll Do

This confidential client is hiring a Data Scientist I to join a risk and data engineering-focused analytics team in Atlanta, GA. You will work with large-scale transactional data to support risk measurement, product insight, and operational reporting. The role emphasizes data quality, feature engineering, and delivering reliable analytic products into production.

• Analyze large transaction datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, and revenue or risk-related signals
• Support development, testing, and validation of value-added attributes and analytics pipelines
• Use SQL (and SAS where applicable) to extract, clean, and transform data from Teradata-style table structures
• Apply established statistical and non-statistical techniques to evaluate alternative approaches (e.g., transaction categorization, feature creation)
• Produce clear technical documentation, test plans, and post-production validation reporting
• Present findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholders in both written and verbal formats
• Follow agile practices for project execution and model/product lifecycle management
• Contribute to a learning-focused environment by researching advances in data science and sharing insights

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the THOR information product and related transaction data assets
• Build working knowledge of database structures, data sources, production processes, and data distributions across billions of transactions
• Investigate data anomalies and communicate risks, root causes, and remediation options
• Support ad-hoc analytical requests, user training materials, and informational presentations for the analytics community
• Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to complete deliverables and resolve data or development issues
• Apply quality-control practices throughout analysis, development, testing, and post-production validation

Required Skills

• Data analysis, cleansing, and validation best practices
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
• Attention to detail and intellectual curiosity about data patterns and anomalies
• Familiarity with agile practices and technical documentation
• Ability to work with ambiguous or incomplete information and synthesize diverse data sources
• Awareness of the U.S. marketplace and financial transaction trends (useful for transactional data interpretation)

Required Technical Skills

• 2-5 years of experience in data science, feature engineering, or data engineering
• Strong SQL skills (experience with Teradata-style table structures)
• Experience with SAS is preferred
• Familiarity with statistical and non-statistical analytical techniques and research/design of experiments
• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, Computer Science or related experience preferred
• Experience integrating analytical solutions into production processes and validating post-deployment performance

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Prior work with large-scale financial transaction datasets or enterprise information products
• Experience with data visualization and delivering executive or operational dashboards
• Familiarity with model governance, model monitoring, or risk analytics workflows
