Data EngineerWe are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join the Flat Roll Group IT team, which develops and maintains shared data systems across our network of flat roll steel manufacturing facilities. In this role, you will design and manage the data infrastructure — pipelines, databases, and reporting solutions — that drives decision-making across the Flat Roll Group. The right candidate brings strong SQL skills, a disciplined approach to data quality, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and triggers to support data ingestion and transformationModel and manage structured data to support analytics, reporting, and application needsBuild and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT processesEnsure data quality, consistency, and reliability across data systemsMonitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data workflows and query performanceCollaborate with software and data architects, engineers, and stakeholders to understand data requirementsDocument data flow, schemas, and data definitionsFollow data governance, security, and compliance standardsIndependently manage assigned work items and commitmentsCommunicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical teamsPursue continuous learning and professional skill developmentQualificationsRequiredProven experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or similar roleStrong SQL proficiency, including complex queries, views, stored procedures, and triggersExperience with relational databases and data modeling conceptsAbility to analyze data issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutionsHands-on experience with cloud data platforms, data warehouses, or data lakesExperience building and maintaining data pipelines or ETL/ELT processesExperience supporting analytics, reporting, or BI use casesExperience with data quality monitoringStrong written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated accountability and ownership of data solutionsBachelor's degree in related field, relevant certifications, or equivalent proven expertise5-7 years of experience in SQL5-7 years of experience in data analyticsExperience in Qlik and/or Power BIMicrosoft SQL Server experiencePreferredBackground in steel or manufacturing environmentsSteel Dynamics, Inc., and all affiliated entities are equal opportunity employers.
