Data Analyst Medical Economics | 100% Remote
We are expanding our Medical Economics team and seeking a Data Analyst who can turn complex healthcare data into clear, actionable insights. This role is ideal for someone with strong SQL, advanced Excel/Power BI skills, and deep experience with Medicare, Medicaid, or Marketplace analytics. Candidates with managed care, actuarial, or medical economics consulting backgrounds tend to excel in this environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace data to support Medical Loss Ratio (MLR), Quality and Affordability Initiatives (QAI), and financial performance targets.
- Build and validate metrics, dashboards, and models using SQL, Power BI, PowerPivot, and advanced Excel functions.
- Develop and maintain complex SQL queries for data extraction, validation, and transformation across large databases.
- Evaluate provider payment methodologies, including DRG, APC, and EAPG pricing.
- Perform financial analytics, forecasting, and sizing to support business cases and operational decisions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including Actuarial, Finance, and Clinical Operations, to assess key performance indicators and cost-of-care drivers.
- Ensure data quality, conduct verification processes, and maintain documentation of data logic and modeling assumptions.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of Medical Economics reporting tools, dashboards, and methodologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, public health, health informatics, healthcare administration, finance, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience working with large healthcare datasets, data verification, and data management; OR 2+ years of IT experience with a strong data focus.
- Strong SQL skills, including writing and interpreting complex queries, SELECT statements, JOINs, and aggregations.
- Advanced Excel skills: Pivot Tables, Power Query, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, nested formulas, and financial modeling.
- Experience with Power BI, including DAX and Power Pivot.
- Background in Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace, managed care analytics, or medical economics.
- Understanding of healthcare payment methodologies: DRG, APC, EAPG, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Python or R for statistical analysis or automation.
- Actuarial experience (health insurance, pricing, or reserving) or work in medical economics consulting.
- Familiarity with evaluation of QAI initiatives, MLR targets, and healthcare KPIs.
