Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Nurses

Are you a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Midwife, or CRNA who thrives under pressure and has a heart for sharing the love of Christ with those who are hurting? Samaritans Purse is seeking medical professionals to serve on our Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART). The program is committed to meeting the critical needs of victims of war, poverty, famine, disease, and natural disaster. DART members can be deployed to dangerous places with challenging living conditions and long work days.

How Serving on the DART Roster Works

DART members are contracted “on‑call” employees. Their pay is activated when they are deployed to a response. While deployed, Samaritans Purse provides compensation and covers response‑related living and travel costs.

Overview of Midlevel Provider DART Roles

Emergency Medicine NP/PA – Responsible for providing clinical care in emergency and triage settings during an international DART medical response, including fast‑paced hospital or outpatient environments.

Critical Care NP/PA – Responsible for caring for patients in severe or unstable condition, including ICU‑level patients and specialized respiratory care units.

Pediatric NP/PA – Responsible for clinical care of pediatric patients in outpatient clinics and inpatient hospital settings, including pediatric trauma patients.

Internal Medicine NP/PA – Responsible for clinical care of patients of all ages in fast‑paced hospital, outpatient, or mobile medical settings.

Midwife – Responsible for initial evaluation of pregnant patients and ongoing care of all OB patients through discharge, including routine antenatal care, gynecological concerns, and newborn care.

CRNA – Responsible for respiratory and anesthesia care to pre‑op, surgical, and post‑op patients, including trauma patients in emergency settings.

Individual must maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Education and Experience

• Ability to serve on short‑notice deployments (3‑4 week) 1‑2 times per year.
• Capability to work in a very fast‑paced environment, 7 days per week for extended hours during deployment.
• Demonstrated travel, volunteer or work experience in developing countries.
• Willingness to work in unstable, insecure areas.
• Teamwork, especially cross‑cultural.
• Highly detail‑oriented.

NP/PA & CRNA Additional

Minimum of two years experience as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse in a relevant specialty is required.

Clinical Experience Within the Last Five Years Is Required

Completion of accredited training as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist specializing in applicable field. Current active licensure from sending jurisdiction.

Midwives Additional

• Minimum of two years independent experience as a Midwife without direct clinical supervision.
• Completed at least 400 hours providing well‑woman care.
• Completion of accredited training program as a Midwife, Nurse‑Midwife, or Professional Midwife.
• Current active licensure or certification as a Midwife in sending jurisdiction.
